FWIW (and it's just my personal take on things), seeing a show from the upper tiers is never quite as enjoyable as seeing it from the front section of the stalls - and it has affected my views on some of the shows I've seen over the years.
I actually agree that the Ayers Rock cardboard cutout is awful - when so much of the rest of the budget is as splendiferously in-your-face for the majority of the show, it looks cheap and therefore out of place.
Perhaps unsurprisingly I disagree that the costumes are the only award-worthy element of the show; Tony Sheldon HAS to be up there!
In contrast I found Sister Act to be great fun at first but less rewarding subsequently - quite slick and polished but with less real heart. That being said, Patina Miller should sue if she doesn't win every best-newcomer award going!
Clive Carter's accent has definitely improved - maybe he wasn't long out of Eastenders when you saw him alterego?
Seen some shows in my time....
