Tony's replacement

Some of you are being a bit negative towards 'Don Gallagher', not surprising as he has big high heels to fill. I cannot help but wonder, if the producers had a chance to get someone better, but couldn't, due to to the actor unwilling to perform on a Sunday?

Has Priscilla recouped yet?

Tony's replacement

Not so much negative, just commenting on his non appearance a few shows in his first week. Fair comments really.

Tony's replacement

The Australian director Simon Phillips once said that Don Gallagher was his first choice to play Bernadette if Tony had been unable to take the role in London in the first place.

There you go, Mel Brooks is a big fan too.

Tony's replacement

I hope I haven't come across as being harsh on Don Gallagher - I wish the guy all the luck in the world and I want the show to continue to thrive. Being a versatile and experienced actor, I'm sure he will do a fine job and bring his own stamp to the role.

I didn't realise he would have been first choice for the part had Tony Sheldon not been brought over - in which case it's nice to see he got his opportunity in the end. Tony's replacement

Still somewhat surprised by the revelation that John Brannoch is a cover for Bernadette - isn't he younger than Oliver Thornton (who has to refer to him as 'Grandma') at one point?

Jason's replacement

Rumour has it that Ben Richards will be the new Tick in a couple of months.

Jason's replacement

A great established West End performer and now TV name to boot.
Excellent casting.

Jason's replacement

Some friends of mine saw the show again last night for the second time.
They are not regular theatre going people but always enjoy going to the West End 7 or 8 times a year. They absolutely loved the show and said it still had the excitement of the first time they saw it 4 or 5 weeks ago.
Don Gallagher was very, very good, not brilliant, but really carried the part well for such a short time in the run. Audience seemed to go crazy at every thing as per usual.
Great news and with all the reports of very a strong advance and interesting recasting coming up it looks like 'Priscilla' will complete the expected 2 year run they have been predicting.
These two guys saw Michael Ball in 'Hairspray' last year and hated every second of it!

Jason's replacement

I like the look of the STAGE TUBE video for Priscilla (can't actually watch it at work).

Priscilla Queen of the Pudding anyone??

Sorry for this being my third post in a row on this thread.

Just thought I should finally get around to posting after seeing the show last week.

I saw Don Gallagher in the role of Bernadette last Monday (15th). He was good although I'm not sure his voice was as strong as Tony Sheldon's, especially noticeable at the end of Hot Stuff. The wigs for most of it didn't seem to suit his face. On the whole I thought he was a good replacement though.

Hugo Harold-Harrison was on for Jason Donovan. He was good, although he seemed to be struggling to remember the dances and kept looking to Oliver to remind him. I could be completely wrong, as this was only the second time I've seen it, but I did notice him seeming to be just a milisecond behind the rest with the moves. On the whole though, I think I preferred his performance to Jason's, singing and acting wise.

Glad to hear Don is doing well, even if his wigs don't fit! I'm sure they'll sort that out soon!
I'm impressed that Hugo has already been on for Jason, as he's only just joined the cast, he can't have had that much rehearsal as Tick... Good on him!

Yeah, I really liked him and his voice. I read on his Twitter that he 'should be on most Mondays.' The only problem with him (or anyone other than Jason probably) playing that role is the Neighbours Scott/Charlene talk.

I watched the performance on Alan Titchmarsh's show this evening. Afraid I wasn't convinced by Don Gallagher. He looked the part but seemed to struggle in front of the camera's. Oliver Thornton certainly looks to be stealing the show now.

ah i missed it! hopefully it will appear on itv player soon...

The guy looks like a tranny that walks around Soho nightly.
He doesn't look comfortable, his build is too big for the part.
Sorry.

The Priscilla company on The Alan Titchmarsh Show.

Alan hasn't done his research, firstly he says to Don Gallagher that he's been doing it for a year and Don has to correct him and right at the end he says'..and Priscilla, well she's the caravan!'

-

Fair comment, he just doesn't look natural as Bernadette, he is a man in drag.

'Priscilla's journey to the other side of the pond has just taken on some interesting casting news.

-
Matt Cavenaugh, who has just completed a run on Broadway in the new production of 'West Side Story' (I saw him in the mego flop 'Urban Cowboy') and Will Swenson who has been associated with both the new Broadway and London production of 'Hair' are rumored to be close to signing for the October 2010 Toronto production that will move to Broadway on March 6th 2011.
-

Matt Cavenaugh is lined up to play Adam/Felicia.
Will Swenson is lined up to play Tick/Mitzy.
Tony Sheldon, who created the role of Bernadette in Australia, New Zealand and London is expected to confirm his role in the very near future.

I have to say from the Alan Titchmarsh show Don looks completely overshaddowed/upstaged by Jason & Oliver! Sth about the waistline of that dress that makes him look very uncomfortable~

Am so excited by the expected Broadway casting -

I am so going to be there to see Tony reprise his Bernadette on Broadway. Think I'll make a block booking of several performances. He so deserves the opportunity.

As for that Alan Titchmarsh performance, I hope it was just that Don Gallagher was still very new into the role but he sometimes looked like a rabbit in headlights. Afraid I can't bring myself to see the show in London any more.

Why do I feel that Swenson and Cavenaugh should swap roles?

I'm a bit surprised they didn't cast a bigger 'name' in one of the roles (a la Jason Donovan), but there's no doubting Cavenaugh's and Swenson's musical theatre pedigrees. It will be particularly interesting to see how Cavenaugh's take on Felicia compares to that of Oliver Thornton.

I'll be thrilled for Tony Sheldon if he gets to make his Broadway debut - I can't think of many actors who deserve the opportunity more.

Is the Richard Rodgers a definite or still to be confirmed?
Seen some shows in my time....
#674

-

The Rogers is the wrong place, it will have more problems thee than it faced in London, it simply doesn't have the off stage space.

Alterego, I felt the same that they should have cast these two in the opposite roles!

-

I see Tony's Mum has all but confirmed his Broadway debut. I can't think of an actor from the London stage who deserves it more than Tony. He has invested his heart and soul into Priscilla and without him the show would not be the success it is today. Having been there in Oz and in London, I for one will be there to cheer him on the final leg of the journey for Bernadette -)))))
