Please, please, please let this still happen.
I have never been more excited for a trainwreck.
It's already been discussed here I think, but Riedel had plenty to say:

"If that [opening on schedule] happens, I'll eat my young" is one of the better Riedelism of late.

It said the "halt" will not have affect on the preview date.
This better happen! I have been anxiously awaiting it, good or bad.
I'm obsessed with this, I want to hate it but I don't know..
I hope this does happen because I am dying to see how it pans out.
Well it's certainly happening eventually, they've already dumped untold millions into it.
I actually don't know if it's guaranteed it will happen. They probably realized that at $35 million it will take them years to recoup, IF they do.
They may think it's wiser to take the loss and think things twice before trying to hit Broadway like that.
The Ford Center/Hilton Theatre curse has gotten so bad that shows now flop there before they even start rehearsals!
LOL! Honestly, with that kind of production costs and numbers, I kept thinking more Vegas than Broadway, but oh well...
That theatre is horrible. They should just put Wicked in there so I never have to set foot in there again.

I know the show is big (why else wouldn't it try-out?) but why is so much theatre renovation needed? I know the flying is (supposedley) top notch, but $10 Million?
They are completing redoing the Hilton to be in the round.
CASH FLOW PROBLEM: Transllation...show will tank pronto and we know it so we're cutting our losses.
They're not pulling the plug but Taymor is having a meeting with the powers that be this week about costs. They requested the meeting.
I'm amazed that they just figured out that the budget wouldn't allow them to recoup, well, ever really. Something we all called when the budget was first talked about. If Taymor is the so-called queen of ingenuity why is this costing so much if she's so inventive.
I'm also worried that the "genius" who designed the set for Mermaid is involved.

Yup, sounds like Cirque and Vegas, not Broadway.
How much was Wicked costs? If Wicked was cheaper than this, I don't even want to know what ridiculous effects and sets they are doing.

Taymor does what she does very well, but she stopped being 'visionary' years ago.. her daring style is still the same, so why are people still impressed? Not saying it is bad or anything. The woman also doesn.t seem to understand 'budget' and thought process. She wants to experiment, fine, but it just doesn't work, in this field, to build twelve full versions so that you can pick ONE. It requires a true mind to design a dozen and figure it out on paper THEN bring it to working life.
Also, she, like most 'high sconcept' directors, gets SO caught up in devising an out-there concept, that the sholw itself is left by the wayside and the concept is brought to the forefront. NO. The concept must serve and support the show, not vice-versa. It should never overshadow it.

14 million I think. I don't get all the hype over Wicked's sets & effects because they are pretty dull.
double post

Lol, Wicked was around 15, this is 35.
I've heard Wicked was in the 14 million range. Because of the effects involved in Spiderman, I imagine part of its problem is weekly running costs (which have been reported to be in the unhear of million dollar range).
