"Hey everyone.
I know I'm new here but I just wanted to say that the Hilton is definitely not being reconfigured in the round."
That is true. The "renovation" is to add 300 MORE seats.
As far as Spider-Man needing spectacle... well, if you're gonna do Spider-Man, it kinda does need spectacle.
Take away the spectacle and you have the story of a young man with no superpowers who feels like he failed his father figure. Very little drama there. They could call the show "With No Power Comes Even Greater Responsibility."
However, if they wanted a superhero-based show that wouldn't require ridiculous special effects constantly, why didn't they go for Batman, where the characters are Sondheim-complex, and nobody shoots webs out of their hands?
They should have just hired that Dragone dude from all the Cirque shows, if that's what they wanted. At least he knows how to spend the 35 million.

This--Batman is the one superhero I think could make a fantastic musical. The characters are already so theatrical.
I think it's safe to say we all know who is responsible for this one.
Arthur Laurents.
