The 2010 Pulitzer Prizewinners and Nominated Finalists in all categories will be announced on April 12, 2010 at 3 p.m. Eastern daylight time.

I would love to see Bill Cain recognized for his work in EQUIVOCATION.

I really enjoyed Equivocation, but I doubt that it will even be a Finalist. There are just too many really strong plays this year.

My money is on ORPHANS HOME CYCLE or BROTHER/SISTER PLAYS for the win, with Next Fall and Circle Mirror Transformation as the runners-up.

I wonder how likely it is that Ruhl will be a finalist again for Vibrator Play. Orphans is AT LEAST a finalist, but I know some people will be torn on awarding a piece that has in part been performed before. I would LOVE if CMT were named a finalist.

I see ORPHANS winning.

But you can all guess what I think should. (Granted, I didn't see ORPHANS as I'm waiting on a transfer. Fingers crossed.)

Is anyone else uncomfortable with nine pre-existing plays being edited together and billed as a new work? I have great respect for Horton Foote, but the idea that he could win a posthumous Pulitzer for this collage doesn't sit well with me. Besides, he was already awarded a Pulitzer in his lifetime (1995-THE YOUNG MAN FROM ATLANTA). Personally, I'd like to see the award go to a new, original work.

"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body

I feel the same, AC. Great as Orphans may be (I haven't seen it), it's tough to argue as a new work. But I feel like everything else that would seem to be in contention this year has its detractors. I'm personally rooting for The Brother/Sister Plays and would love to see Circle Mirror and Next Fall as finalists.

ORPHANS was also heavily edited.
