Question About Horribly Nasty Stage Door "Employee"
#1Question About Horribly Nasty Stage Door "Employee"

I was walking home past The Golden a little while ago and saw that VANYA had let out before that, so a lot of people were waiting by the alley way for the stage door. I noticed the awful little man who works that theatre and one or two others who has (in the past) been beyond mean to me and my friends when we wait after a show. Anyways, tonight I saw him tell an older woman to "move the F*CK over!", which she couldn't because he had nowhere to move TO since the scaffolding on that sidewalk restricts so much. She wasn't in anyone's way and was actually on the other side of the scaffolding so traffic could get through. After a few seconds he asked her if she was an idiot and if she was deaf. She had NOWHERE to move to so with tears welling up in her eyes and her face red from embarrassment, she turned and walked away from the whole thing, to which this man looks at others waiting and says "These F*CKin' people".
I only saw all of this because it started as I was waking by and I was kind of amazed that even he would be that nasty to a woman her age who wasn't doing anything different that the couple dozen other people there were doing. This is the same guy who told me to put my PRAYERS FOR BOBBY dvd away because "she don't want to sign no damn dvd's" right as she walked out and told him that "of COURSE she wanted to sign them" (since Mrs. Weaver is one of the sweetest women on earth to her fans).
I took this man's picture tonight since I don't know his name. So my question is - it a good idea to report his actions? And if so, who would I even write to that would care?

What a disgrace. Could you contact the Shubert organization? I would love if you posted this creep's picture.

LOL. No, this guy's not old enough to be After Eight.
And I don't want to post his pic here. If you've even to that stage door, I'm sure you know who I'm talking about, though. He's never been anything other than rude and nasty.

i think i know who you are talking about. i remember when i went to see the show and stagedoor afterwards. I myself am 15 and i was with my friend who is 17. After a few minutes once all the traffic had passed, the Stage door manager turned to us and said
"run off, they ain't gonna sign for kids"
We were very surprised, and didn't know how to react when all of a sudden the wonderful David Hyde Pierce came out and said "of course we'll sign for them!" and proceeded to sign, talk to us and tell us "don't mind him, he's a grouch."
For those going try to put up with this guy to met this wonderful cast, they really are the nicest, especially Sigourney and shalita grant!

Posted: 6/20/13 at 10:54pmI've heard a few stories from friends who've been at the stage door for Phantom and gotten yelled at by Vanya security people. Weird.

Jordan, if there is a next time and you're able, what about taking some cellphone video of him in action? I'd say start with the house manager and work your way through the various names in the Schubert organization. Also, maybe some of the individual producers of the show - I doubt any of them would like their paying audience members to be treated that way.
That's my two cents. Treat it like any other incompetent customer service grunt you get on the phone: "let me speak to your supervisor" and so on up the food chain.

#10Question About Horribly Nasty Stage Door
Posted: 6/20/13 at 11:06pmI'm sure you would not be the first person to report this man, especially if actors know he's a grumpy man. It surprises me that the Organization has not taken action against this...could it possibly be a union-type thing?

I had a similar thought - especially if the actors are contradicting him right in front of the fans - with both Pierce and Weaver saying "of course"

Is he the same guy who worked the stage door for THE NORMAL HEART a few years ago? Because he had an obsession with the sidewalk, too.
That's awful. I'm not saying that people ought to behave like Disneyland employees, but he seems to be nothing but a prick. Jordan, contact the Shuberts, perhaps?

So that's what After Eight does with his evenings.
That was funny.
Jordan: I would report him to someone at the union simultaneously with reporting him to someone at the Shubert Organization.
The union discipline committee might actually hit him harder than the employer.

I'm scratching my head over the idea that any actor would sign for adults but not for a 15 and 17 year old. If anything, it would be the other way around. It's especially bizarre with this particular cast. I can't imagine David Hyde Pierce refusing to sign for anyone who saw the show. (Of course, it sounds like the stage door guy is just making up stuff that doesn't reflect the feelings of the cast.)
I also found that the stage door guy is weirdly hostile and makes people tense. When I went, he was also extremely particular about exactly where you are standing, even if it didn't seem to make any noticeable difference. And honestly, there were about 15 people waiting. It wasn't this huge horde of people that was impossible to control.
I'm a little surprised he was foolish enough to be cursing at patrons, though. That's a very black-and-white reportable issue for which there isn't much defense.
#15Question About Horribly Nasty Stage Door
Posted: 6/21/13 at 12:16amWait, who are we talking about? Can someone describe? I used to work at a different theatre in that alley and leave through that stage door a lot but never noticed any overtly rude behavior.
#16Question About Horribly Nasty Stage Door
Posted: 6/21/13 at 6:40amI like the idea of someone taking a video of this jerk. It appears the cast know he is a "grouch" but nothing has been done to him. I assume this idiot works almost every night so it would not be hard for management to know who you were complaining about, hope something is done about this situation.

Why, it's the most disgusting, atrocious thing ever to happen in America!
But, Jordan - she's definitely not Mrs. Weaver; she's either Ms. (or Miss) Weaver, or Mrs. Simpson; "Weaver" is her born name, and her husband is one Jim Simpson.

I think you should absolutely report it. When he is (needlessly, no less) swearing and verbally abusing people, it should definitely be brought to someone’s attention.
Although, if he is as bad as you say, I fear that that kind of behavior could not possibly have gone unnoticed, so it worries me that no one cares enough to do anything about it.

I'm scratching my head over the idea that any actor would sign for adults but not for a 15 and 17 year old.
But of course it was completely fabricated; it's not about what the actors want, it's that this guy probably assumed kids would behave a certain way, didn't want to deal with them, and tried to ward them off.
I (very tearfully) had the cast of The Normal Heart sign my tattered old copy of the play. I'm glad I didn't encounter whoever this person is.
Jordan, you should definitely report him.
