I heard from a friend that RENT might be closing soon on Broadway. I'm gonna be SO upset if this is true. Can anyone clarify if this is true or has any else even heard this rumor. Thanks so much, any info is appreciated!

NO!!! That can't be true, but I wouldn't doubt it. It's one of the easier one's to get tickets to, plus it's not everyone's cup-of-tea. Hopefully with the movie (11.11.05), more people will see the show, keeping it alive. It will be missed if it's true.

I think that HAD been a rumor a little while back. But now the producers are trying to hold off from closing, and see if the movie helps attendence. God knows it helped CHICAGO. It might have help PHANTOM alittle atleast. Lets just hope that it does REALLY well at the box office!
They better wait until the movie opens, eventhough practically everyone has already seen RENT, people like me want to experience it over and over again! I guess that's what the movie will be for, but it just won't be the same. I'm gonna miss my RENT.
Ugh, not this again.
What does that mean LizzieCurry, have you heard something.

Yes you guys, it's true. RENT is going to close. And also, you are going to die. I'm very sorry.
eventually, yes...soon? no.
Attendance hasn't been horrible. No, it hasn't been great, but nothing horrible. It still has life in it.
And it doesn't cost alot to run. It doesn't have crazy effects like wicked or lion king.

The closing rumors started in '97....posts show up at least once a month here questioning whether or not it's closing.
Think logically now. Would they really close it with the movie opening approaching in November?
The attendance has been steady (certainly not a sell out) - but they have a fairly low opperating cost and there hasn't seemed to be a drastic drop in attendance to warrant a closing. They should be fine for now......

I highly doubt rent is going to close soon. I still continue to be pleasently surprised everytime I see it at just how full the house is.

My personal opinion: attendance might be even better if they got new cast members. Something refreshing. Like I'd totally pay to see Caren Lyn as Mimi, but I'm not too eager about seeing Matt or Cary just because of things I've heard (yeah, I know I shouldn't go by hearsay but I don't have any choice being in Nebraska - but I've heard more negative from several people than I have positive).

I highly doubt that RENT will be closing anytime soon. It wouldn't be a wise decision to close it before the movie goes into theatres.
They're having auditions on Wednesday. I don't see why they'd do that and then close soon.

I really like Matt, honestly. He's incredibly talented and very good in the role of Mark... I think he just let it get old, you know, playing it over and over again became boring to him (at least thats how it seems). After seeing him when he first did the tour and now on Broadway, there is a serious difference in level of enthusiasum.
im still a rent fan in the minority due to the fact that i still havent seen it! this summer though. im excited!
I agree with the idea that Matt has really "Gotten bored" with the role. I believe he has played the role more than anyone else, and he's really sunken in....I'm not the greatest fan, but he is still better than past mark's I've seen...
But Cary is great...
