Thanks for the info everyone, I'm becoming convinced to see it! Just a quick question - can anyone compare the touring cast to OBC performances or older performances? I'm just curious cause I have heard these are the best performers in a long time. I've seen Rent regularly since the days of Joey Fatone, et al...better than those performers? Thanks for any help! I haven't seen the Obc i have only heard the recording, however the mimi I saw had a better voice then the one on the cd. Andy Meeks sounds exactly the same as Anthony Rapp, Dan sounds a lot like Rogerfrom the cd, and them together in what you own is better than the cd! I seriously think they should make their own recording!
I Hope andy stars in an obc production. I don't care what it is as long as it has good music!
I've heard other people say things such as the current touring cast being the best thing since the OBC. I've even heard some say that they are as good as the OBC were, or even surpass them. I have never seen the OBC, but I certainly wouldn't say that they surpass them. I think I like Adam better than Dan, just because Dan's Roger kinda came off as a jerk to me. Just me, though... HOWEVER, he and Andy Meeks's What You Own IS absolutely phenominal! And yeah, I do agree about Mimi. I ABSOLUTELY LOVED HER! Daphne Rubin-Vega, as much as I like her, is starting to get on my nerves a little bit. I'm sooooo ready for new interpretations. Maybe Rosario Dawson of the Rent movie will come through? 'Cause I certainly hope so... At any rate, I'm DYING for a new Mimi on recording.
Tell me about it! I cannot wait for the movie soundtrack!!! I hope it comes out next month...lol i wanna new cd...mine is skipping
The one key aspect that the current tour matches the OBC is in their energy and spirit. They bring fresh life to the show and they have fantastic chemistry together.
I would say that Andy rivals Anthony Rapp (their voices are very similar).
Dan is a fantastic Roger and I really like his portrayal. It's different from Adam's in that Dan has a pure rock voice while Adam has a more powerful rocker-Broadway voice.
Tallia as Mimi...well, I really like her Out Tonight and Without You, but I don't think she's as raw and in-your-face-sexual as DRV (at least from what I've seen of DRV in Rent).
I really liked Ava's Maureen (and boy, is she HOT!), but I saw the tour early on in their run (Sept. 2004) and it seems like Ava's reviews have been progressively inconsistent.
Marcus's Collins is just...amazing. His voice. Wow. I love me my JLM, and I normally don't like Santa Fe or ICY, but he makes me not dislike them as much. (And his ICY:R is the only time I've ever teared up at Rent.)
Damien as Angel is not bad - good chemistry with Marcus - but not one of the stand-out performances. I think Wilson had it nailed.
Just my 2c.
hi tiff!
I Am just soo excited to see the show again...It is amazing and I guess it is a good thing I got deflowered to this cast because I have heard so many bad reviews of the previous Rent tour/broadway casts.

You said it. I lost my cherry to the Broadway Rent cast in April and I was very disappointed. The cast lacked chemistry and had so little energy. I was so worried that "this" was "it". I said on another thread that the Rent OBCR is a must, and someone said no and that the OBC themselves didn't like it much, which I can understand, but there's more sparks on that CD than the Broadway cast had when I saw it.
Imagine my relief when I saw the current tour. It made me love Rent all over again! Be glad this was your de-virginization!
I lost my cherry to the tour cast when I was 14.
Daphne was my first mimi.
I'm a wee bit spoiled.

I'm ignorant on the early run. How was Daphne your first Mimi? She didn't go on tour, did she?
she didn't do the tour per se, but she did do a six week run in LA with the tour. If my memory serves me correctly, it was Jan 15-Feb. 28 1999
That is good. I would have loved to see the obc if they thought that the Cd was horrible. I really like it and would love to compare the two.

DRV was with the Angel tour for a while. This current tour has its good points, there's no question about it but it's really difficult to compare casts. There are so many variations that, yes, on a given night it might be better than another cast on a given night but to say categorically that it's better, as a whole, than another cast isn't entirely accurate. It's opinion, in any case, right? Unless you've seen several different casts, on several different occasions, then I guess someone could make a more accurate comparison. There are so many permutations to any cast that it's rarely the same group of castmembers for even a week at a time. I understand that if you saw the Broadway cast once, and it could have been a bad night, that you might not have enjoyed them. You could say that about any cast, though, to be honest.
True but i wasn't comparing them like i said, "I would have loved to see the obc if they thought that the Cd was horrible. I really like it and would love to compare the two. " I totally agree with you but I am just comparing them to the cd. I saw the show twice with the current tour and both nights were the same except for mimi because she was sick and her understudy, who never worked with the cast-ever, took over. But every other point about the show was great. So i am just giving my views of the cast that is on tour, not comparing any of the other casts.
"ONLY 13 SLEEPS UNTIL I SEE THE TOUR!"
If I were you, I'd be so excited there would be 0 sleeps before seeing the tour. But I'm sure I'm an insomniak, so... LOL.
Though, its good to get your sleep now. I personally can't sleep for like a week after seeing Rent, beause its so good that it makes me that hyper!
Just Pray that everyone is feeling alright because I haven't seen Meeks understudy!
Thanks for the input y'all!! I'm just thinking that I'm gonna go see it and form my own conclusions and stuff, but I'm definitely gonna look forward to late Feb!
erinrebecca, I don't know if that was directed at me but I'll respond anyway. Yes, you're right, one isolated night isn't enough to really judge a certain cast. However, many reviews (esp. on Compulsive Bowlers) have lamented on the same flaws that I mentioned (and I read them after I saw the show and came to my conclusion, so I didn't go in expecting them to suck). But I guess everyone has a different opinion. Drew Lachey, Matt Caplan and Andy's contracts are all up at the end of March, so my fingers are crossed that Andy will take over on Broadway after that. (And I'll be the first in line.)
See it in Ny? and then tour? Sorry i didn't really understand your last post
Who, me? Now I'm confused.
yeah
Oh, what I was saying was that I saw the Broadway cast first, didn't like it because of their lack of energy and chemistry, and then found CB where some people were saying similar things. So while I agree with erinrebecca that you can't judge a cast based on one show, but in this case, it's been a recurring thought.
I saw the Rent tour after that and really liked them. (I saw them every other day in Vancouver and found that even within that 5 day time frame, their performances were improving.)
Does that clarify anything?
Yeah thanx...i was just really confused...lol i am stupid like that.
