Man, stuff like that does not happen in my part of Georgia. The only activism I see here is whether or not the college's football coach should stay.
Speaking of the Vagina Monologues, I'm surprised no one brought up the recent performance on the steps of the Michigan Capitol.
A bold statement of protestation, done with a theatre piece.

Talk about preaching to more than the choir!
It literally came down to that, huh?
Yes, in the incident to which I refer, it came down to one person's decision that, as a matter of principle, the firm would not cave in to people who were "uncomfortable" working with HIV-positive people. That was in the mid-1980s.
The Americans with Disabilities Act wasn't passed until 1990.
As a whole, however, the AIDS epidemic eventually found Americans at their best, I think: no concentration camps; less job discrimination than one might have expected, at least in large cities; enormous amounts of private donations, etc.
Unfortunately, a lot of people (including one of the biggest movie stars) died before Americans decided that gay people might be worth saving and AIDS might happen to somebody they knew. It hasn't been easy to forgive that, as I suspect you know.
