Anybody else find it really disturbing that those children are portraying characters with AIDS?
Not really. There are children with AIDS all around the world. Most were infected by their mother invitro. The South African Sesame Street has a muppet that is HIV positive.
I find it disturbing the children are portraying heroin addicts.
The video was taken down due to a copyright claim by MTI. I still have the page open and can watch it, but unless there's a way of downloading videos from YouTube that doesn't involve navigating away from page, I'm stuck.

Orange, you can copy the URL into vixy.net and it may still work.
I wonder what took MTI so long to pull this down, since this has been up about a year. (Max von Essen tweeted about it yesterday, but not sure if one of the bigger blogs did, maybe...?)

Posted: 8/6/10 at 11:47amIt was all over Facebook yesterday, so between the exposure here and there I'm guessing either someone alerted MTI or someone from MTI saw it themselves.

#31RENT at the Hollywood Bowl - Video preview w/ set and costumes
Posted: 8/6/10 at 12:00pmI guess so, but I would have expected them to have a little more respect for the source material. I am fully aware that they never know how good or bad a production may be when they sell the rights, but come on, selling RENT to an elementary school?

A. If it was your kid, you wouldn't think it was horrible.
B. Everyone has to be in at least one very painful school performance. Right?
I wouldn't take joy in making fun of anyone under the age of 12 who is getting up on stage. They'll be the ones filling the seats of Broadway theatres in the near future.

Posted: 8/6/10 at 10:37pmI shed a little tear when I clicked on the links and the Kiddie Rent was no more. It was weird, scary, just wrong, and yet so right. Also, I don't care what you say about not making fun of young children, sometimes you just can't help yourself.

No one's making fun of the kids, really, are they? It's the whole enchilada that's insane/disturbing/something from which one can't look away.

A.) I wasn't taking joy-I was critiquing. They were AWFUL. If they want to be in the biz, they better get used to it. There are too many negatives to list, but they all sounded atrocious. I am sure their parents thought so too, they just didn't say it.
B.) Most of them will be managers at Taco Bell. Maybe one will get to Broadway, if they are lucky and find directors who don't let them perform out of tune and sounding like a dying bovine.
