"and yes, i agree, the people who comment to this website and act like they know everything are annoying."
Coming from the big RENT insider know it all, that's quite a statment. Glad you admit it.

Adam hasn't changed much since he was in the OBC of Rent, he looks the same and honestly the only one who deserves the part. I have never seen a better Roger than Adam Pascal, also btw you probably heard this but they are also after Wilson Jermaine Heredia for Angel, sorry no Jai

what do you mean "deserves"???? Being in the original broadway company does NOT entitle someone to being in a film version in ANY way.

actually, i met Jai this past september here at my college (the queer eye guys were making over the fraternity house) and he told me that he has been approached several times to do the movie and wasn't sure if he wanted to do it yet or not.

Since they're doing the stage-actor's turn in casting this thing, I'm gonna vote Heather Headley as Joanne. I'm betting her and Idina singing together would make people stand up.
Also, I think her acting is unmatched by any actor of her type.

If Heather played Joanne, I'd worry about her accidentally swallowing Idina when singing.. Though Joanne is going to tracey thoms anyhow.

oh gawd..who brought back this pack of lies?
and mywonder..it's so great when someone who starts a thread about CONFIRMED casting goes and suddenly says they are not on eto start rumors. How convenient for you! Hmmmm...as of today...no word on anyone who's been signed. So when are they gonna annouce it Mr. Insider? After all, according you you, the cating has been confirmed.
And you're in college? How pathetic.

Ajay didn't say Adam deserved the part because he was in the original cast, but because Adam was the best Roger, in ajay's opinion. Don't get the major scorn here.

And now he's going to tell you for the three thousandth time that Adam can't sing, Adam can't act, etc... just leave it alone.

Well, Emcee, I was referring more to the scorn toward Ajay that seemed to be expressed, but I can understand your trepidation. So before Broadwayguy gets in with the anticipated jabs, I'll respond.
What I like about Adam's singing most of all is its expressiveness. Sometimes his tone is beautiful, sometimes its harsh or even ugly, but its all in service to expressing the feelings in the song, which I think he does very sensitively. I've never seen him in Rent, but listening to "Glory"on the recording, each phrase and even at times each word is shaped according to its meaning in the song. In other words, he's a superb *actor* of a song, and he seems to be slowly taking that ability over into the non-singing parts of his roles.
The only time I've seen him on stage is in Aida at the end of its run. I thought he did a fine job of acting in a not-so-easy part, in the sense that there's not a whole lot to work with.
I met him once briefly in the course of my work, before I knew much about him or had seen him on stage. I was struck at the time by his confidence. I've met and worked with a lot of actors, and unfortunately "insecurity" seems to be the middle name for a lot of them. (This is understandable, given the amount of rejection inherent in the acting profession.) That vulnerability also can be part of what makes an audience love an actor.
Adam is different, which may put some people off. He's also been very lucky, more or less falling into success in a profession many people spend countless lessons and hours trying to break into. However, nobody "deserves" success because of how much training they have, and I doubt if Adam could have achieved his success without working very hard, whether he's had many lessons or not.
What it all comes down to in the end is that people like listening to and seeing Adam on stage, and I think they'll like him on film too.

Very, very well said, Chloe. I agree that he's been extremely lucky, but I think it's also become obvious that as he takes on more challenges, he's been working his ass off. That said, I think he has every right to be confident, and I don't just say this becuase I'm an enormous fan. Anyone who works hard deserves their own confidence. I also think that what you said about his acting through song is something that I've been trying to find the right words for for a while. I think that putting him a straight play wouldn't work well, but he acts through music so beautifully, and I think that helps a lot, especially with parts like Radames, where the writing aside from the music leaves something to be desired. Anyway, well said. Further commenting on my part would be redundant and probably wouldn't come out right.

I'd like to see Angel played by Jai Rodriguez. He was really great.
For Mimi, Karmine or Krystal Washington would be good.
Joanne doesn't bring anyone to mind exceot perhaps Queen Latifah.
I agree with Adam being too old. I'm thrilled that he's in the movie because I absolutely love him, but I don't think it's age appropriate.

i still maintain if they get karmine, they might as well hire reba or dolly parton.
and that while queen latifah would probably act the part well, and has the right attitude, i don't know if she could sing it. (but some ppl told me to list to some of her other stuff where she apparently has joanne-appropriate pipes...i'm still on the fence)

If Karmine was Mimi, I think I would die of happiness.
