You're brave to stick by the argument against Pascal for his age with Rapp supposedly posting on this board, or just incredibly admirable for not fawning over anyone to the extent that you're unwilling to be truthful. :)
(and no, this is not an endorsement of the argument against Pascal; of all the roles, I always thought that Roger would have been so difficult to cast that Pascal or Shields might end up under consideration)

Like I said earlier in your gigantic RENT casting thread, I'm not keen on Adam being cast - in fact, he's the only OBC member that's been announced so far that's prevented me from embracing this decision. I don't think any amount of soft lighting and lenses will make him look like he's in his early twenties. But while Roger's age can be adjusted in the script (after all, it's never explicitly said in the libretto), I'm now concerned as to what age mimi will be portrayed as. I don't think I'm huge on the early-30-something hooking up with a 19 year old who looks 16. And I don't think upping Mimi's age will stay true to the character.

But it's legal, isn't it? I'm asking this question with respect to both Pascal and myself, because I think that without knowing it, I may have reached an age where it's illegal for me to take an interest in people under the age of 19.
There are some pictures on gettyimages.com from the last two years that may make you change your mind about Pascal being able to look a bit younger ("may" being the operative word). Once this casting is confirmed, I'll be more concerned about the performances -- as Diggs and Rapp are the only cast members to have had major roles in film -- than the ages, although I have no problem admitting that my excitement about the film was slightly mitigated Tuesday with the news that I wouldn't be seeing completely new interpretations of most characters.

You and me both, Evelyn. However, I don't think I've ever used the phrase "cautiously optimistic" as much as I have in one day today.
As for is it legal for a early-thirties Roger and a 19-year-old Mimi...sure, it's legal. But Woody Allen and Soon-Yin are legal too, no? (Extreme and bad analogy, but the point remains the same.) I have a feeling Mimi's age will be upped in the movie, which saddens me.

Yeah, don't get me wrong -- I don't think that the leads' ages will by any means ruin the film, but I'm also not buying arguments that because their voices have "matured," listening to the film's soundtrack will be a new and awesome experience apart from Today 4 U, Out Tonight and other solos by cast members not from the OBC.

Eh, I think they're more likely to just not reference her age before they actually change "I'm 19, but I'm older for my age" to "I'm 25." They probably have someone in mind who's well into her 20s but can still pass for 19.

joanne- queen latifah (joanne is supposed to be slightly older, and she still has that oscar nominee appeal)
angel-jai rodriguez (queer eye is still popular)
mimi- mya (i think it would work and she still has some recognition)
so all three can ligitimately sing, and are "star names" so everyone is happy- ish

jonart, I think it's been confirmed that Tracy Thoms has been cast as Joanne and that Jaime Lee Kirchner is auditioning for Mimi.

And everytime I think of the OBC in the movie, I like it more and more. Oh well

I think Jai should be Angel, because he has some star power from Queer Eye, and he was fantastic on Broadway. Queen Latifah as Joanne might be interesting. We know she can do movie musicals (Chicago). I hope Taye gets Benny, because how awesome would that be?

In case you have not noticed BWW now has an official source.

So, she does one musical which requires her to sing a song that requires very little vocal work and now she is being suggested for Joanne? She can't sing that role. She does not have the kind of voice required for that role, and for those of you also suggesting her for Motormouth Mabel, she can't sing that either (and she is not the right age). Just because she is a black singer/actress please don't assume that she can sing or act in any role out there for a black female. She is good at what she does but it would be better if a person with the right kind of voice was cast for both of those parts. Latifah is not that person.
