I really love how the window boxes are set up on that poster. You've got Mark next to Maureen/Joanne, and Mimi is above Roger and Benny, then Collins and Angel next to each other, too.

So true. I am a high school teacher and we start back to school in a few days and my kids are going to think I am a little nuts, I've replaced Shakespeare with RENT! If I could only figure out a way to spend a whole six weeks on it...any ideas...

Wow that poster looks good. I woke up at 6 am to watch the today show, but the Rent cast didn't come on till like 8 so I watched it then went back to sleep, lol. It was so good though, and it made me so happy. Everyone looked amazing!

I try. Last year when we were working on our unit on poetry, I did play "Without you" as a poetic form...I wrote it on the board and handed out copies of it. Some thought it was great, some laughed at the recording.

Hey everyone. I was at the Today Show today and it was amazing! I got there at 5:30 and there already was a line forming down 48th st. At ike 5:45, all the cast had a soundcheck and they sang boths songs many times so we had a nice preview. They let us into the filming area around 6:30 and we got spots right against the barricades to the left of the stage a little ways back. I was holding up a sign that said... RENT NO DAY BuT TODAY and the Rent was in the Rent logo and Today was in the Today show logo. Before they all came on to the stage, which was like at 8:15, Anthony went around and signed autographs and took pictures. During the commercial breaks it was a lot of fun cause the cast was dancing dorky and stuff. After the whole Rent segment, the whole cast went around signing for a couple of minutes, except most of them stayed in one little section before leaving. Idina though signed for every person that was there and took like one picture with two little cute girls. Bryant Park wasn't that crowded for the soundcheck. Jesse wasn't there so Wilson sang his part in SOL. He isn't as strong as Jesse is but his last not on DIED was amazing. It was a real fun day.

Abikatmom - you can go back to the source material - La Boheme...which was based on something else before that (I forget). You could chat about how artists were/are always trying to be relevant to their time...and the changes and reinterpretations they've had to make to their source material over time. Art tells us what was important in various eras. This makes sense in my head...I hope it makes sense in words

Loving the poster. At Bryant Park, it was the back cover of the program, so I have a little reminder. Curious thing though, you know how they list this cast on everything in ABC order. Well they did that on the poster but the names just stop after Idina Menzel. No Adam, Anthony, Tracie or Wilson.

I'm talking about the small print that's always part of a movie poster. you know when it lists all the producers, director, etc.
The top line has all of the studios bringing the movie to us.
The second line says based on the muscial by Jonathan Larson....RENT...Rosario Dawson Taye Diggs Jessie L. Martin Idina Menzel
The next line says casting by Bernard Telsey Casting
And the rest of the names do not appear.

Perhaps they will change it for the real poster.

most likely because those are the names that the average moviegoer would recognize. Rosario from movies, Taye from TV/movies, Jessi from L&O, and Idina has a pretty big young following, plus some people recognize her as Taye's wife and from gues spots on TV.
