Okay, I am seeing Wicked and Hairspray in October, and want to see one more show- RENT or the Producers? I was wondering which is more "kid-appropraite", or at least better for teens, (i wanna see RENT, but still, i dunno...) which has more swearing and bad stuff? also, which is better for tickets!
I'd apprecitate feedback.
Thanks guys!

See RENT..although I'm completely biased and haven't seen producers..so I'm probably not going to be much help. Yes there are adult themes in RENT, but if the viewers are teenagers like I think you said, they can definitely handle it. RENT is such a beautiful story and language isn't a big issue. They say F*** a few times if that matters to you.
hope i could help a little

I say go see Rent. It's a great show and teens love it.

Producers is not reccommended for children under 10
RENT is not reccommended for children under 13
If you're a teen... either should be acceptable for you. I don't know Producers too well, but RENT has a few swear words here and there... but it says the under 13 is reccommended because of controversial issues and adult themes.
I hope that helps,

okay, i prob will go see RENT (are the tickets pretty easy to get?). language isnt a huge issue, like we saw chicago, and my parents werent that bad about it. is there anything else about RENT i should know, like..i dunno, just "sorta inappropriate" stuff?
thanks guys for all your help! lotsa love!
depends on what you like - bigger musicals: moving sets, elaborate costumes, dancing, etc = producers.
alternative and edgy style, with a multi-level but basic set, and very little dancing = rent.
sometimes prodcers is better to see with family b/c it is a little more "traditional" and larger; rent is a show to go and see with a group of friends and/or a cool adult :)
just my two cents,.

There is no comparison ! Definetely see RENT !!! After all, both movies are coming out at that time and you can catch The Producers on the big screen, which will probably work better ! But the fantastic energy of live RENT is not to be missed !
I'm 15 and I've seen both. I saw The Producers when I was in 7th grade and Rent for my first time in 10th. I really enjoyed The Producers in 7th grade..I developed an obsession with it and that's what got me into wanting to have some sort of Broadway-esque career. Rent, I got hooked into it early 10th grade, and when I saw it, I was amazed. It amazed me unlike any other show. I think you have to be at a certain maturity, different age for everyone, to appreciate the whole effect of Rent. I'd personally recommend Rent, but if it's for kids who wouldn't care either way, then I'd say The Producers. But if you want to see Rent, by all means, go see it!! It's amazing, imo.

I would definitely go with Rent. Only other thing to be hesitant about in Rent besides swearing is during "La Vie Boheme" when Mark sings "Mucho masturbation." If your mom can handle that, then you're fine.
As for tickets, if you went now, I'd say that you could easily get tickets for both, but with the heavy promotion on October -November for the respective movies, I guess that demand for the stage shows will be higher!
Well, I'd hope that parents would have an easier time dealing with "Mucho Masturbation" than they would with "Who do I have to f**k in this town..."

yeah, im already seeing wicked and hairspray, so prob rent will be the one, plus, for some odd reason, my parents REALLY wanna see it, after the movie trailer ??? :) i want to too.
but its columbus day weekend, so im a bit worried bout tickets...
thanks people sooooooooo much!
Well, if you guys don't mind standing you can get SRO tickets when the box office opens for pretty cheap. On a holiday weekend you'll likely need to get there an hour or two before the box office opens.
I believe there are discounts on the various sites for Rent right now though.

Neither show really sells out. You should really have no problem getting tickets to either show.
That isn't typically true on a Holiday weekend though, is it?
I like both a lot, but I would definately go w/RENT. It is appropriate for teenagers (not appropriate for KIDS, but appropriate for TEENS). The Producers has some pretty adult humor in it (Mel Brooks is always like that), so honestly I wouldn't say it's exactly kid-friendly either. It's just less blatant than the drug-addicts of RENT (though, honestly, RENT is pretty fluffy, considering the topics it deals with).
RENT!!!! RENT RENT RENT!
By the way, Rent!

haha cool
so rent it will be! yay!
so, all i gotta do now is order the tickets... :)
PS- what is mucho masturbation or whatever it is? (this shows how dumb i am...) and, i dont think my mom would mind...she might mind the part where maureen pulls down her pants...or does she?
Maureen does moon a character during La Vie Boheme. If your mother is sensative about things like that get seats on the Right side of the house, you won't be able to see it as much.
Mucho Masturbation is a line in La Vie Boheme. Nothing graphic, just words - although depending on the Mark he may ad lib a gesture of some kind. I haven't seen Matt Caplan, so I couldn't even guess.
There is another part in La Vie Boheme where Pee Wee Herman is referenced and the actor playing Paul/Diva does a "mastubatory" gesture, but it's all quite harmless and frankly with so much going on at the stage at that point you might miss it.
The words that you will hear in Rent off the top of my head is:
Goddamn (1X)
F**k (2X)
F**king (1X)
Motherf**king (1X)
Sh*t (2X)
There is also talk of drug use and the Maureen Moon.
Rent is melodramatic crap that pushed the envelope at one time
The Producers is cheap laughs....
Personally i would see Producers considering the other 2 shows you are seeing
I'd agree generally with the statements here. As far as content it really comes down to whether your family would have more trouble with a comedic or serious take on the subject matter. (Mine would have no trouble with RENT but might even leave THE PRODUCERS, of course I'd see them both 20 times if I were still your age
)
Patronus! Hi! Go three Ps!
If you're a big DRS fan..
There's no question - you should see THE PRODUCERS.
Saw it with my parents, and grandma. And we all loved it.
Big, flashy, funny, and a great score.
