Yay! for THE MOST HAPPY FELLA and the new two-theater complex!

Meh... for SUNSET (it's a good score, but it only has three songs!) and ELLING (do we really need another play based on a movie?)

I haven't read any of Neil LaBute's plays, so I can't comment on FAT PIG.

SUNSET is a fabulous production. It's done by the same company that gave Doyle his shot with SWEENEY (the Watermill?), only this one is directed by Craig Horwood (spelling?), who is known in the UK for Strictly Come Dancing, I believe.

It's an intelligent, swift and intense production; the instrumentation is not confusing or obtrusive; the whole thing works very, very well. Even though it's the same song repeated over and over. The important thing, though, is that it's extremely watchable.

Norma's the only one who doesn't play an instrument. And Kathryn Evans, who essayed the role as I saw it in London, was tremendous. Not a caricature, not a lunatic, but a sad, sad human.
