Tick, Tick... Boom! didn't play on Broadway. It played Off-Broadway at the Jane Street Theatre.

I agree that Tick...Tick...Boom! can not be compared with Side by Side. Side by Side is a review and TTB is an actual book musical. But TTB played OFF-Broadway, not on. That, of course, doesn't make it any less great.
RIP Jonathan! Here's to a wonderful 12 years of RENT being on Broadway and having the show live on for the future...
RIP Jonathan. Though Rent may be closing, let's hope that the spirit and message of the show will live on forever!

They should have something in his memory be on the theater even after the show closes like an eternal flame.

RIP Jonathan. God bless you and yours.
"So you're going to forget about all his hard work on it because it doesn't "sound" like his music? Right. "
Did I say Larson's music SOUNDED like Sondheim's? No. I said it felt like a compilation of discarded material (which is really is) and I don't count it among his major works. It's a revue show, a compilation. And I should change Side by Side by Sondheim to Marry Me A Little, which is a compliation of Sondheim's discarded material. Please read more carefully. Thank you. :)

Can we not fight on this thread? Thanks.
RIP Jonathan Larson, and thank you. I only wish (just like so many others) that you were here long enough for us to thank you for your work to your face.
Wait, we're saying that tick, tick...BOOM! is a compilation of discarded material? Because it's not. It's an amalgam of several different versions of the same one-man show, which was obviously ultimately turned into a three-person musical. That's completely different than doing a revue comprised of songs that were cut from other major works, like Marry Me a Little. They're apples and oranges.
ANYway, thank you, as always, to Jonathan for his art and inspiration. I too wish he could have seen what it became...
Thank you, Jonathan.
I actually saw Rent for the first time on January 25th.
Oh, so it's not a compilation show? Okay. I'm sorry then. My mistake.
And if the newbies that come on this board continue to act the way they do, we're going to see a lot of fights fetzles, so get used to it.

Haha, fair enough jv. All of the "OMGZ RENT DONT LEAVE MEEE!!!1!" posts are getting out of hand. That, plus generally ignorant statements? I'll probably be fighting soon, too. ;]
Here here, fetzels, on all accounts. lol.
RIP, Jonathan, and thank you for all that you have given to the world so long past your life, and the inspiration that is worth more than anything.

Just thought I would share a picture I found recently of Adam and I when I saw the OBC. I am in the process of taking digital pictures of all my old pics. :) I will miss Rent, I am a huge fan of the show.
Hahaha Adam's hair. :) God I wish I was old enough to have seen the OBC... (but RENT's not really appropriate for a six-year-old)
We miss you down here, John ...
Just thought you oughta know
Leave the light on.

"There is no denying "Rent" changed the world of musical theater forever, and I personally cant think of anyone more deserving of an accolade like having a theatre named after him than Jonathan Larson."
What?? RENT did not change the world of musical theatre. OKLAHOMA! changed musical theatre. HAIR changed musical theatre. RENT did not.
And you really can't think of ANYONE who deserves to have a theatre named after them more than Larson? Really?

ummmm.....yeah! Larson was a genius!
That's wonderful, but there are many other geniuses who contributed far more to Broadway than Larson.
RIP Jonathan

If that that is your opinion than feel free to create a thread about someone you admire. Please don't come here to trash on someone who inspired me. Where's the love?
R.I.P Jon Larson. He did change musical theatre! Rent will live on forever.
it may not be on broadway forever but the memory of it will ALWAYS AND FOREVER be around!
