Road Show. Spanning 40 years from the Alaskan Gold Rush to the Florida real estate boom in the ‘30s, Road Show is the story of two brothers whose quest for the American dream turns into a test of morality and judgment that changes their lives in unexpected ways. Director John Doyle, acclaimed for re-imagining Sondheim’s works, joins Weidman and Sondheim in exploring some of the great American issues: real estate, capitalism and crooks.
I hope it doesn't sell out completely, I would love to try the rush.

I doubt it's going to sell out very quickly.
The only people who really know what it is are on this board.
Yes, I understand it's Sondheim's next show, but his shows rarely form a stampede at the box office when they're on Broadway, let alone downtown.

Posted: 10/12/08 at 1:02amThat's true. So the chances of getting general rush seats early in the run may be likely?
#3re: ROAD SHOW tickets are on sale NOW...
Posted: 10/12/08 at 1:02amI'd presume so.

Posted: 10/12/08 at 1:18amThe rush seats aren't guaranteed? The Public website made it sound like they would be available before every performance.

Hmm. I would like to find out if they are guaranteed. Maybe they have a set number of seats put aside before every performance? Does anyone who has been to the Public know? The theater is just so small, so I'm not sure how they do it.

bump. Here's what someone said about the rush policy on ATC. Apparently it's guaranteed.

I ordered at midnight last night and haven't recieved a conformation email? Is anyone else experiencing the same problem?
Oh, and if it isn't sold now now, it won't sell out for a while. I don't know why I get myself so worried. I thought the LuPone Gypsy at City Center would sell out in twenty minutes and ordered the minute they went on sale. The run couldn't even sell out. Road Show probably won't either, though I hope it does. I wish Sondheim, Weidman, Doyle and company all the best with this latest incarnation!

Posted: 10/12/08 at 7:33pmI'm in no hurry. If the show is favorably received, it will probably extend or move elsewhere, at which point I don't think there would be any trouble getting to see it; if it isn't favorably received, then I couldn't care less. I have admired and extolled Sondheim's work many times, but I don't consider myself to be a Sondheim "nut." Just my thought.

Posted: 10/12/08 at 7:41pmWith so many shows closing, if it gets good reviews it will probably have no trouble transfering. It's probably going to be a smallish show.

I highly doubt the show will transfer. I saw the show in Chicago. While it's true that the original Bounce book and Harold Prince's direction were god-awful, all could be forgiven if the score was up to any of Sondheim's other works. The score and lyrics, while pleasant enough, is simply disappointing when compared to any of Sondheim's earlier works. As far as I know ,the score is not being significantly revised.
If you don't believe me, listen to the DC cast recording of "Bounce"...

Posted: 10/13/08 at 6:47amI don't know about "significantly," but the score will most definitely be somewhat different from the one used in "Bounce." I've heard it has a more darker feel to it...

I got my "Road Show" tickets yesterday. It seemed that many of the early dates were already sold out.
I'm really looking forward to it -- in my opinion, even the least successful Sondheim show is better than most of what's out there these days.

The score will be different. Sondheim said it will have more songs from the original WISE GUYS. And the character of Nellie is gone, so say goodbye to all of her songs. Plus the title song of "Bounce" has been rewritten. It's obviously going to be different. I just hope "Get Out of My Life" stays!
And I'm pretty sure they would like this to transfer. Come on, it's new Sondheim.

People have to remember how many subscribers The Public has. Then you have to add that number to all the musical theatre freaks who want to see Sondheim's latest show. Before any potentially positive reviews come out you already have a wide enough audience net to fill the run.
The $20 day of rush at The Public is notoriously difficult to get tickets for. Usually there are no more than a dozen seats and you have to wait in line 4-5 hours. I only know because I've tried several times, waited for hours, and didn't get anything. It is not like waiting in line for things at the park. (And not nearly as fun either.)
I got my ticket yesterday. Great seat for the middle of December. Most of the early November shows were sold entirely.

jv92: I bought my tickets yesterday through the Public Theater's website, and received a confirmation email afterwards without incident.
However, I do know that many commercial websites are set for a brief moment of "downtime" usually around midnight for automated system maintenance. If you happened to make your purchase at exactly that moment, your transaction might have been lost, received incomplete, or possibly just delayed. (It happened to me once on another website.) You might want to contact the Public directly to confirm your purchase.

Just snatched up a couple of tickets to the Nov. 9 evening performance at 7:00 pm.
Got row O seats 13 and 14- not great, but not terrible either.
Very excited, I just hope that this is good.

More good news, Tunick is still the orchestrator.
ROAD SHOW will feature scenic design by John Doyle; costume design by Ann Hould-Ward; lighting design by Jane Cox; sound design by Dan Moses Schreier; orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick; and musical direction by Mary-Mitchell Campbell.
