ROCK OF AGES Casting Drama?

Word over on ATC is that the producers of ROCK OF AGES may be having such a hard time getting the Off-Broadway cast to sign on for the transfer because they're all being offered minimum level contracts at low pay.

Additionally, rumors are going around that Constantine Maroulis has elected not to transfer with the show because of financial issues with his contract.

This one seems to be off to a rocky start already. Has anyone heard anything similar?
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.

Same talks were going around with HAIR. You can't blame them...times are tough, but they still have bills to pay.

Just as with that talk; they will be able to find kids that will work for scale....one way or another. Just like any other negotiation, the actors will truly find out how much they are individually valued.

I heard most of the cast is making the move, including Constantine.

So did I...and I was just there this weekend and talked to many of the cast members.

I would almost imagine that even scale for B'way would pay better than they were all making OFF B'way anyway. (But I have NO idea what contracts are like for off b'way!)

This link takes you to the casting post over on Playbill. You can see what the minimum weekly rate would be for this show on Broadway. I would not mind making that much per week. lol

I would think Off BW is probably half of that, no?

re: ROCK OF AGES Casting Drama?

BWay minimum is about 3 times most Off BWay salaries.
Everyone has to tighten their belts.
It's still more than Roundabout favored Nations.
As long as it doesn't start a precedent.

I knew what minimum was for ON B'way. I can't imagine that it would be 1/5 for off.

I'm sure someone here could help us with the info.

Depends, a lot of Regional / Off-Broadway are around $600-800/week - and those are the good contracts.

Well we will soon be able to tell about Constantine, because he is still scheduled to be on the "Rock The Soap" cruise from 20-23 March out of LA.

His people just announced today that he has canceled doing the cruise. It conflicts with the previews on BW. He took the link off of his official MySpace today.

They just haven't updated the Rock The Soap site.

re: ROCK OF AGES Casting Drama?

don't know what the minimum is for off-broadway.

the average weekly pay is around $800 (that's what the boys in ALTAR BOYZ are paid and I'm told that's fairly "average" for off bway)

for Broadway, I believe the minimum is between $1,300 and $1,500 (I know the ensemble/dance girls in WHITE CHRISTMAS are getting paid around that amount)

re: ROCK OF AGES Casting Drama?

Scale minimum is just over 1,500/week.

Thanks for the hint about the Altar Boyz pay!
