Looking at the Brooks Atkinson, apparently.
Can see this doing very well. Already a crowd-pleaser, even charmed me. Story is dumb, but it's fun and the music is unquestionably great.
Hopefully they won't serve drinks in the aisles.

Thanks for getting this posted, Yankeefan!!!!

I think it will do well, too. For a long time. It may be the best time I ever had in a theater.
Charmed is a good word. I didn't expect to be, but charmed I was. The cast is a great ensemble, hard working and ernest, young and hungry. They must be jazzed.
How big is the Brooks Atkinson?
The show deserves a transfer, but agree with ya Yankee.
They BETTER not serve drinks in the aisles if they make the move to Broadway !!!
The drinking stories have actually KEPT me from seeing this!

That is just sad. You should go to a weekend matinee if you're that faint of heart. I've been on Sat. night and though very enthusiastic, the crowd was well-behaved. But, to tell the truth, the show is so much fun even a couple of drunks couldn't ruin it for me. LOL
I think the producers are making some changes because they have received complaints.
It'll always be a rockin' good time and the audience has crossed the line a few times. However, I was at the Little Mermaid with my niece and found the crowd excessively noisy there. I wouldn't expect anybody to not see the show because of my experience. *shrugs*
i have never seen this but i cannot WAIT
i have heard nothing but rave reviews about it
and since they are eyeing a broadway transfer, any news on a cast recording?

I love how talks of a movie came out before this announcment!
Good news. I hope this happens and I hope they attract Mamma Mia-sized audiences.
11 producers and a film company, sheez.
Good Luck to them all.

There is a BIG difference between a noisy crowd (which is common at so many Disney shows- my experience at "Mary Poppins" was basically ruined because of the excessive talking at the show), and screaming rude, obscene, comments at/to the castmembers, while being surrounded by people that are loaded.
As far as going to the Saturday matinee. A co-worker of mine did just that, and her sister had a drink spilled on her, and they had to deal with 5 women in front of them that were trashed the entire show. Yes, probably a more subdued crowd at the matinee, but as long as they keep serving drinks during the show, at people's seats, they are going to have problems.
And I keep hearing about the steps they have taken to curtail this behavior. Just stop serving the alcohol !!!
Let me reiterate that I LOVE the show, and I think they DO deserve to transfer.

In a couple of weeks I will be at a friend of mines opera recital. Once I am done hearing her sing I won't have time to get to see a broadway show or any other off Broadway show for that matter. But, I am glad that they have the ten PM show on Fridays so I can actually see a show and this is a show that I have wanted to see for some time. I am sure that there will be loud drunk people. But, I won't let that bother me.
I believe there is only 1 show on Friday now @ 8PM-

I know all this is premature, but the question that immediately came to my mind, if the show transfers to Broadway in late Spring, will Swenson go with it or is he going with the Broadway Hair? I really think he is a super talent and would have loved to see him in Hair (missed it at Central Park last Summer), but I'd go to Rock of Ages again because I'm sure the management wouldn't let the audience get away with the shenanigans they pulled when I saw it in November.

i'm excited for these guys. it's a fun show, and although people love to rail against the story, (saying it's stupid, blah, blah, snore) I actually think the story fits it's show perfectly. It's a jukebox musical with Whitesnake songs, for christsake!! I love that this show embraces (and pokes fun) at the cliches of musical theater and rock n' roll excess. I will go on record and say "I am a fan of this story!" Way to go, ROA! congrats!!!
And as far as the alcohol, I don't think it will be a problem on broadway... mainly because the ushers aren't young actors but union workers who average somewhere around my mom's age. I think the house will much more reserved there.
When I saw THE TIMES.... (which I saw many times...)
If you bought a THE TIMES... sippy cup at the BROOKS, you could drink in the theatre and the cup has a lid (I still use it).
Trivia: what is the connection between ROCK OF AGES and
THE TIMES THEY ARE A CHANGIN'?
There may be more than one.
I gather from what I've read that it is the New World Stages serving the alcohol and the RoA people don't even get a cut. Of course, the theater is making a pretty penny on the booze so I don't see them stopping.
I am cautiously optimistically nervously happy for the whole cast.
Will Swenson is in an interesting spot. Good for him.
Jane, you work for ROA?
No I don't, Timesquare.

Would you recommend seeing this now or waiting? I understand that the stage and scenery are sort of throughout the audience and stuff too? I wonder if I'd appreciate it more on Broadway or Off-Broadway since I normally go to shows alone.
The news that RoA is in charge of the alcohol is interesting. I'd heard from different people it wasn't. I guess you should know, though, Jane2.
Ew.
Am I the only one that felt like I was watching an 80s themed Six Flags show when I saw this?
Not a fan in the least bit. Why can't we put more shows like PIazza on Broadway instead of this crap?

Rent Boy, see it now. It's an intimate, special setting at NWS. You'll want to see it again, anyway.
There's a brand of theater snob who won't be able to get the stick out of their a** long enough to have nothing but a good time. Your loss.
