re: ROCK OF AGES mulls Broadway move, spring 2009

Sorry folks, there are other posters who can share their enthusiasm about this show in this thread.

Since the producers aren't around here to share all the good news, I and others here have been sharing our love for the show. However, because of some unfortunate situations on this board, I've withdrawn from the conversation. All parties concerned have already been informed by me via email.

Got rather nasty rather quickly... and unnecessarily if you ask me. It's just a broadway message board, for crimany christmas! No need to act like grade school Milk Monitors and threaten people's jobs. Most of the crap I read on these things is half wrong and based on hearsay or the opinions of people who are no where near "in the loop." That's what's fun about this thing! Lighten up. Tolerance. Love not hate. blah, blah, blah... now kiss and make up.

You've pushed me a little too far this time with your lunacy, Wanna Be A Foster. If I were you, I wouldn't interfere in my personal life one iota. Word to the wise.

Ridiculous to see the type of back and forth that went on during this thread. If you don't like the show, don't go to it.

It's a really good show and it will be even better on a bigger stage. The dance routines alone will benefit from having more room. I can't believe how carefully this cast has moved on stage without incident. That alone has earned them the right to go up to a big old Bway stage.

It might not be official yet, but where there's smoke, there is fire. Get ready to celebrate.

And for something completely different:

Can anyone give me an idea of age appropriateness for ROA? I'd appreciate it and thanks.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

I think the original age cut off was no one under 12 was advised to attend. There is some suggestive dancing done by the "strippers" and some foul language. But there are plenty of young children I'd say who range from around five on up who have been attending.

It sounds REALLY sterile. I have no interest in seeing it. Then again, I had no interest in seeing Mamma Mia! either and now it's a worldwide phenomenon. Audiences just want a good time, and from what I've heard, it provides that. I hope the cocktail waitresses at the Brooks Atkinson are dressed as 80's punk girls!

"Heard that Constantine (who I really like in "ROA") will not be part of the Broadway cast.

Anyone else? Not sure if 100% accurate."

What is the source of your information Testing? I'm pretty sure it's inaccurate. Most of the announcements about the move to BW only mention the possibility of Will Swenson not staying in the show because of his role in Hair.

I thought this show was cute and entertaining but [tos] take 2... this show should stay Off-Broadway... but if I'm wrong and they succeed, then congratulations!
I once heard someone describe her (Ruthie Henshall) singing as sounding as though she's trying to swallow a whole meatball slightly larger than her windpipe. (The same person compared Michael Ball's singing to sounding as though he's sitting on a washing machine on spin cycle and Colm Wilkinson's to a man with a paralyzed lip trying to eat cottage cheese.) --- Schmerg_The_Impaler

it's [TOS] all over again

some amazing shows are closing and being postponed but this crap gets transferred??

It will be on a month and then will completely flop or they'll be a lawsuit regarding the in-seat cocktail service, which is the TRASHIEST broadway gimmick. ever.

Heard it from two people that both work in theatre.
(Not w/ "ROA")

I hope its not acccurate. I like him in this role.
However, have to agree with the others.

Dont think this show will be able to survive (more power to them, if they do) on Broadway, and you all know how I feel about the alcohol "experiment". Not a good idea !!!

Although the casting has not been announced, their website features a page about the show going to Broadway with the same picture as my avatar. Constantine front and center. Pretty sure Will is the only one deciding what to do. However, Will's poster is up at the Hirschfeld. Has he made a decision?
Jekyll & Hyde back on Broadway! / Rock of Ages - 5 Tony nominations! Awesome!

One of the articles about the move stated- with most of the same cast, including Constantine. I wii look for it and bring it over.

re: ROCK OF AGES mulls Broadway move, spring 2009

Variety:
"The show's Off Broadway cast includes Constantine Maroulis, Will Swenson and Kelli Barrett. Producer Matt Weaver expects the ensemble to remain largely the same, although Swenson is still deciding between "Rock" and "Hair," another Off Broadway production getting a Broadway run next spring."

BWW Article Citing Variety as Source:
"Variety also disclosed the information that ROCK OF AGES star Will Swenson is still considering if he'll stay with the show or join the Broadway production of HAIR for which is was a cast member of when it played at the Delacorte in Central Park. Swenson was also seen on Broadway in LESTAT. The rest of the ROCK OF AGES Off-Broadway cast is expected to follow the show to Broadway, including Constantine Maroulis."

I think people are looking for an official cast announcement. One producer's expectation out of, what, 15 other producers?
