re: RUINED Extended For Sixth Time - Through 6/28

I don't know if RUINED could succeed on Broadway on more than a limited run: with extension after extension, it seems to be drawing its New York audience pretty quickly. If it moved to Broadway in a commercial production, it would have to rely on tourists almost completely, and how many tourists will want to see a Serious, Wretching Drama, no matter how well-written or put-together?

That said, I do hope it gets that limited run.

Its a shame MTC doesn't just forego the extensions and mount it at the Biltmore next year...

That would satisfy a Broadway run without the financial risk.

Fantastic show...it totally deserves to be one of MTC's Broadway ventures next year. They had a somewhat rough year and this being mounted at the Biltmore would surely set them off on the right foot next season.

What great news for them; Broadway transfer or not, six extensions is wonderful news.

It doesn't need to go on Broadway to be successful. 6-time extension, Pulitzer Prize; chances are it'll win the Drama Desk and Obie.

<< Today is Saiddah Eukalona's last performance as Mama Nadi. Portia will take over in a week or so, I believe.
>>

Saiddah is brilliant ! Yankee (and others) --- having not seen all of the others nominees, do you think Saiddah could have won the Tony had the show been on Broadway?

re: RUINED Extended For Sixth Time - Through 6/28

I think she definitely would have won.
She gave the best female performance in a play that I saw this year.

Glad you loved it, Testing! It's a really wonderful piece of theater.

Was the theater crowded?

re: RUINED Extended For Sixth Time - Through 6/28

Thanks, Wicked !! One of the best shows I have ever seen, and her performance was fascinating ! (Just aren't enough accolades !!)

The theatre was around 90-95% full.... And seemed like everyone loved it !!!

re: RUINED Extended For Sixth Time - Through 6/28

I think that if RUINED opened at the Biltmore, a whole mess of things would be different. It would no doubt win Best Play (it is by far the best play of the year, REASONS not withstanding, as it originally opened in 0re: RUINED Extended For Sixth Time - Through 6/28; Eukalona would have a great shot at best actress and Condola Rashad would definitely win Featured Actress.

re: RUINED Extended For Sixth Time - Through 6/28

I totally agree, Yankee.

RUINED (with REASONS not far behind) is the best new play of the year by far.

I thought Eukalona, Rashad, and Quincy Tyler Bernstine were so incredible...words can't full describe their performances. They must be seen to be believed...

I wonder how Portia's take on Mama will differ from Eukalona's.

re: RUINED Extended For Sixth Time - Through 6/28

I'm sure Portia will be terrific--she's a very fine actress and I look forward to seeing her in the role.
"You travel alone because other people are only there to remind you how much that hook hurts that we all bit down on. Wait for that one day we can bite free and get back out there in space where we belong, sail back over water, over skies, into space, the hook finally out of our mouths and we wander back out there in space spawning to other planets never to return hurrah to earth and we'll look back and can't even see these lives here anymore. Only the taste of blood to remind us we ever existed. The earth is small. We're gone. We're dead. We're safe." -John Guare, Landscape of the Body
