Sean Combs and Phylicia Rashad were on Oprah today in the second segement of the show discussing the TV Movie. It was great to see the studio audience very enthusiastic about the film but particularly about Ms. Rahsad's performance in the film. They showed the scene where Walter Lee reveals all the money is gone to Lena and Phylicia's monologue that followed was nothing short of SPECTACULAR!!!! They cut back to the studio Oprah was in instant tears(I know I know thats not really that hard to get LOL) and the studio audience rose in a spontaneous standing ovation. It was nice to see her get some wonderful recognition, which she deserves for her amazing talent and work......I feel she gets harshly critized on the boards here, more than what is necessary at times.

Sounds great.
And you are right. Oprah always seems to be crying! She can turn on the waterworks quiet well!
Rashad's work since Raisin is what has earned her a lot of criticism here on the boards, because every other character she has played since seems to be a spin-off of that one.
I remember her being almost unanimously hailed here, though, when she was in Raisin. She was pretty amazing in that show. Her Tony award speech that year was when things started to go downhill.

Sounds like it was a great episode!

Ahhh what the hell....LOL
"Often I've wondered, what does it take for this to happen? And now I know. It takes effort and grace--tremendous self-effort and amazing grace. And in my life that grace has taken numerous forms. The first was the family into which I was born. Parents who loved and wanted me and a mother who fought fearlessly, courageously, consistently, so that her children, above all else, could realize their full potential as human beings. Teachers who wanted to be teachers. Art, all my life. A brilliant play, a magnificent role, a producer with a vision, a producer with a heart, and a director who dares to see me as an artist capable of many things. I thank God for every thing, every single thing, for my mother and my sister, for my brothers, for my children, and for this. Thank you." --Phylicia Rashad, Best Actress in a Play, A Raisin in the Sun
while i know this production will be airing on TV on the 25th of this month, will they be putting this out on DVD like they had mentioned doing?
Yup. This will be coming out on DVD. From what I hear, there will also be a 'behind the scenes' featurette.
No date yet for the DVD release.
I was just flipping through channels and stumbled onto this. It was great promotion for the movie, and that scene gave me goosebumps!

I saw this was going to be on TV and plan on watching. Curious how Sean Combs, is that the name he's going by now, did? The name changes make my head spin, or does he have them all simultaneously.
I think he uses Sean Combs for acting and P. Diddy for music related ventures.
I enjoyed this onstage. Sean COmbs did a better job than I had expected. And while I am not the biggest fan of Rashaad, she had me just sobbing during that monologue. I am looking forward to the TV movie. I was most impressed though with Sanna Lathan
Seeing this revival on Broadway was an experience I will NEVER forget. I can not wait for Monday.
