Posted: 4/28/12 at 5:01pmI'm pretty sure the rules state that if there are at least four eligible musicals, there will be four nominees.

Ripped Man,
I did.
With my list, I was just engaging in a little whimsical wishful thinking.

In 1959 and 1961.
And in 1956, there were only two nominees.

2. Lizzie
Major break
3. Leap of Faith
4. Spiderman
5. Ghost
Not one of the best seasons.

Posted: 4/29/12 at 4:35pmtake out the bad press, and honestly spidey should get it. The story cleaned up to about average when all is said and done, and visually the show is stunning.

Posted: 4/29/12 at 5:01pmLysistrata Jones if awful. I haven't seen Leap of Faith or Ghost yet, but I'd honestly rather see Spiderman get in than Lysistrata.

Why so much hate/inconsideration for Lysistrata Jones? I know it didn't make any money, but it's critical response was clearly the best of the 5 remaining choices for that 4th slot. In fact it is the ONLY new musical this year to receive a glowing review from the NYTimes besides Once (which only happened the second time around).
I would not be surprised (and actually am hoping that it happens) if it gets that fourth slot. I was surpised last year when the closed Scottsboro got the nomination ahead of the open and flashy, yet not as well received by critics, Priscilla. I'm hoping a similar thing happens this year...

What I want:
Lysistrata Jones
Bonnie & Clyde
Ghost
Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark
Leap of Faith
What they probably think:
Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark
Ghost
Lysistrata Jones
Bonnie & Clyde
Leap of Faith
With Spider-Man 2.0 receiving better-than-expected reviews and pulling in over $1M a week, I think the Tonys will be more than inclined to toss them a bone despite the controversy. Ghost is the closest runner-up. Lysistrata Jones is mostly forgotten and both Bonnie & Clyde and Leap of Faith were eviscerated by the critics, which will probably be taken more into consideration than it should, but that's just the way it goes sometimes. Like everyone assuming Newsies will win based on its entire score rather than only the eligible new numbers.
