Which show do you feel DESERVES the fourth nomination? No need for debate on this thread — simply rank the "fourth slot" contenders from 1 (most deserving of a nomination) to 5 (least deserving of a nomination).
Mine:
1. Lysistrata Jones
2. Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark
3. Bonnie & Clyde
4. Leap of Faith

LYSISTRATA JONES by and far deserves that last slot for being a refreshing and wholly original musical. The reviews were stellar, it was just the ticket sales that lagged.
After that, I'd put BONNIE & CLYDE, then GHOST, then LEAP OF FAITH, then SPIDER MAN
LYSISTRATA JONES is not wholly original, it is based on an ancient Greek play called (wait for it) LYSISTRATA. It is no more original than GHOST or LEAP OF FAITH. It may be the most deserving of the nomination, but its originality (or lack thereof) has nothing to do with it.
After Eight hates Once. He wanted to make sure we hadn't forgotten that.
My thoughts (and I find it hard to distinguish between what i thin WILL happen vs. what I think DESERVES to happen):
Lysistrata Jones
Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark
Ghost
Bonnie & Clyde
Leap of Faith
1. Ghost
2. Lysistrata Jones
3. Bonnie & Clyde
4. Spiderman
5. Leap of Faith
I tend to think that Ghost will get it, but for pure political reasons. Nominating a closed show doesn't help Broadway ticket sales. Yes, Follies will probably get a lot of nominations (and rightfully so), but partly because of that the committee may decide to give the 4th slot in the best musical category to a show that still has a chance to make money. And I just don't see Spider Man getting a nod after everything that's happened and those actors getting injured.
Anyway, that's just my two cents.

I haven't seen nor do I want to see Ghost; therefore, am submitting only 4;
1. Lysistrata Jones
2. Bonnie and Clyde
3. Spiderman
4. Leap of Faith
I loathed Spiderman, apart for the special effects (when they were working) but felt that Leap had no redeeming qualities at all (including Raul, whom I like as a rule). Lysistrata, though no major work of art, was at least entertaining and did what it set out to do nicely. B&C had some nice songs and two impressive leads.

To Quizking and Yero's point about LYSISTRATA JONES- you can't possibly say that LYSISTRATA JONES is based on LYSISTRATA in the same way that GHOST and LEAP OF FAITH are based on the respective films of the same title. LYSISTRATA JONES was inspired by the plot of LYSISTRATA, but everything else is new. I think what Quizking meant was "original" not in the sense that it wasn't based on anything, but "original" in the sense that it's utterly creative and different than most things you see on Broadway. And in that sense, I'm right there with him. I loved the show and would be thrilled to see it get the fourth Best Musical slot. After that show, the rest of the possibilities are just a bunch of shows I would rather not see nominated. I agree with egghumor that after LJ, the next possibility should be three nominees.

Lysistrata Jones
Spider-Man: Turn Off The Dark
Ghost
Bonnie & Clyde
Leap of Faith
dramamama: did you dislike Leap more than Bonnie and Clyde? Just wondering because I remember you did not care for Bonnie and Clyde at all! :)
LOL...I actually struggled with that ranking a great deal -- I think I eventually decided this ranking because there seem to be MORE folks that like B&C more. Personally, I think B&C was worse -- but not by a lot.
Yeah I am curious to see Leap of Faith now, but it will be long gone by the time I get to the city.
Anyways, my four choices (in no order)
GHOST
Newsies
Bonnie and Clyde
fourth slot to Nice Work/ Spider-Man/Once
I am in the vast minority here in that I do not like Once, but I have no doubt it will get a slew of nominations.
Aw....b'wayphreak, that saddens me. I simply loved Once, its my favorite show of this season. It truly touched my heart.
I need a show that:
Makes me think
Makes me feel
AND entertains me.
I don't ask for too much.
I would LOVE to see them only nominate THREE. What a statement to make: these three DESERVE to be considered BEST NEW MUSICAL, and nothing else does. That would bring some integrity to award shows. I don't think it will happen, however.
