I think these nominations are overall spot-on (although the Featured Actor in a Play category is so very random). I'm sad Side Show was left out, as it was one of my favorite productions of the year, and wish Rob McClure had been nominated.

A question: Let's say On the Town wins for Best Musical Revival, how much would that impact the show? I'm planning a potential trip to NYC for the summer and would like to know.
theatreguy- thanks for answering my question about the eligibility!
I'm just glad Gigi didn't get shut out entirely!
All a matter of opinion. You seem to love it..I saw it and thought it was the worst piece of garbage I have seen in a while. Just a different opinion. No right,no wrong.
I was 77% right with my predictions this year. I guess i'm happy with that, since I can totally understand why the nominees I didn't pick got them.
I am disappointed for Side Show, and I think the choreography nod for The King & I is ridiculous. There are 2 dances in that show, and both were near carbon copies of the Robbins original. But I am pleased about Curious Incident, as the choreography there was AMAZING in helping us "see" inside Christopher's mind.
I am also disappointed for FN, which, despite its flaws, was a wonderful night at the theatre for me. Ah, well, I shall add it to a long list of shows I love that either Tony or the critics didn't.

Has any designer ever been nominated in 4 categories before? (Crowley for sets and costumes in play and musical.)
Re: Whether a show needs to tour well to win the Tony.
Thanks for those responses wonderfulwizard11, tazber and Mister Matt. Very insightful.

Honeymoon played 159 performances. Why would playing an additional 24 have resulted in nominations?

Aren't there 4, actually? Getting to Know You, Shall We Dance, Small House of Uncle Thomas and the Processional? Plus incidental choreography for a couple of other numbers. I think the nomination is weird as well, but it's not unprecedented. Although I did notice that while the 1996 production credits the choreography to Robbins, this production credits the choreography to Gattelli "based on" the Robbins choreography. That's more or less how Reinking won for the Chicago choreography.
I'm thrilled for Ken Watanabe.
I'm thrilled for all of the nominations for "Wolf Hall"
I'm thrilled for Helen Mirren, but, "The Audience" should have received a nomination in the Set Design category.
I'm so disappointed that Bryce Pinkham was snubbed. And, a snub it was.
I disagree with those who say the choreography nod for 'King and I' is a joke. I think it's very well deserved.

If you're referring to the Procession of the White Elephant, it's mostly cut in this revival. A few opening bars of the music remain.

Most of my feelings about the nominations have been brought up already so I'll digress.
However, I wanted to bring up that I'm thrilled for the 2 acting nominations for "Airline Highway". What I didn't understand is how it was nominated for Costumes but not that perfectly gritty and detailed Set?
I think these are about as agreeable a set of Nominations I can remember.
I'm particularly thrilled for Micah Stock, the Curious Incident choreography, and Tony Yazbeck. And the goose egg for HONEYMOON.
I only would have hoped for Alysha Umphress and Jake Gyllenhaal. Haven't seen THE VISIT yet. But overall, very well done!
NY Times: Could This Be Kelli O’Hara’s Year?
Could Kelli lose again to a Broadway legend (Chita) like in 2008 (Patti)? Or will Kristin continue to be stiff competition?

I will be interested to see if these shows get a bump after the nominations: Wolf Hall, The Visit
It's nice to see Ruth Wilson get in there for Constellations. And I'm happy to see Ken Watanabe recognized. Otherwise there aren't major surprises. Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical is quite random. Thank goodness they highlighted Ruthie Ann Miles for The King and I though she's going to have a hard time taking it from one of the ladies from Fun Home unless they split the votes. Are those really the best costume nominations?
None of the nominations really infuriate me but I also feel oddly let down. I'm not really sure why they couldn't widen the number of nominees in certain categories.

If Kelli loses this year, she will be the most nominated performer without a win.
Chita is now tied with Julie Harris for most nominations (10).

"Featured Actor in a Play category is so very random"
I don't understand this criticism. Aren't they all random? Is there supposed to be a theme?
So far, I think it's Kristin's to lose. Chita has two Tonys and her status as a legend doesn't always lead to a Tony (Drood, Dancer's Life, Nine). Not to mention, this is not an A-level K&E show. On the Twentieth Century chugged in on nearly a decade of anticipatory buzz specifically regarding Chenoweth's participation in the revival and for the most part, she seems to have exceeded expectations. That is no small feat for a revival of a musical that has been almost entirely forgotten by the general public. Malone has the support of what is to be the most lauded musical of the season which could boost her chances. O'Hara is currently the queen of revivals and the role of Anna has garnered a Tony nom for every actress who has played the role on Broadway and scored trophies for two of them. But then, the buzz on this revival has been rather subdued compared to the recent South Pacific with O'Hara and even the 1996 King & I revival with Donna Murphy. O'Hara may find herself a victim of circumstance yet again. And as for Malone, she may be wonderful, but there doesn't seem to be an indication that this is a star-turn role or show.

That's amazing!!

Constance Towers was not nominated for the 1977 revival. Surprising because she's absolutely lovely on the cast recording. One wonders what would have happened if Angela Lansbury opened that revival instead of being a vacation cover.

Meg, I totally agree that set was one of the best of the season. I would have loved to see it take the place of Curious Incident or You Can't Take It With You. Those were also strong designs, though, so I don't feel especially angry that it didn't make it in. On the other hand, I'm thrilled with the costume nomination. It seems like modern dress productions are so rarely rewarded and the ones here were so memorable and felt so real. I love the costume nods for plays all around. I'd have to give the win to Wolf Hall, but we shall see!
I'm still catching up on the rants (i think I've read up to page seven) but the noise about Honeymoon has me thinking: I've enjoyed a lot of Jason Robert Browns work (in particular the scores of The Last 5 Years, The Bridges of Madison County, some of Parade and the song "Stars and the Moon") and I believe he truly can write fun stuff. But I didn't enjoy the score to Honeymoon in Vegas. I bought the album the day it came out really hoping to love it. I listened to it once and it didn't leave an impression, so I thought maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention. I listened to it a second time and have never listened to it once since. That was when it started previews, so about 5 months ago. And when I enjoy a recording i listen to it over and over for weeks on end. I didn't see the show, but speaking just from the score I wasn't surprised it got zero nominations.
On the whole I'm very excited about the nominations. The 5 shows I'll be seeing have been nominated for a total of 38 Tony's (Fun Home, An American in Paris, The Visit, On the Twentieth Century and On the Town) and I'm a little bummed I couldn't get tickets to The King and I or Something Rotten! (they wouldn't fit in my schedule, K&I sold out and SR! didn't have very good seats for the price in my last slot) but these nominations have brightened my day.
TWO-TIME TONY NOMINEE ANDY KARL!!! Remember when I first started posting here and you all gave me s*** for loving him? He is a true fighter ... Rock on, Rocky!!! I think he will lose though.
I am so happy my two legend queens Kelli O'Hara and Judy Kuhn got nominations. I hope they both win!!!!
I wonder if this means Andy Karl will get more roles on Broadway.... I would love to see him lead another musical soon... Obviously my dream would be to see him play Hedwig, but I'd rather see him win a Tony soooo....
I LOVE ANDY KARL!
Skimbleshanks, I agree

Poor Matthew Morrison. He certainly deserved a nomination.
Poor Gigi. it was better than both the crass On the Town and the labored On the Twentieth Century.
