Yup.
Those 'home movies' were shot with silent color 8mm film so they cleverly attempted to sync the audio from the Original Broadway Cast recording with the footage.
Kudos!
Y'all have to see the 'home movies' shot by one of the dancers of FUNNY GIRL during Barbra's run in the show back in 1964-65. They at least tried to sync the sound to a 'live' bootleg audio recording. The Barbra in FUNNY GIRL footage is at the bottom of the page:

NOTE: ironically, both sets of 'home movies' were shot at the Winter Garden Theatre (MAME followed FUNNY GIRL).

Um...B3...."Mame" is pretty damn good, and legendary. Angela Lansbury IS Auntie Mame. The fact you can imply that a show that housed not only Lansbury and Bea Arthur, but has since housed such names as Dee Hoty, Christine Ebersole, Ann Miller, Juliet Prowse, Loretta Switt (as Gooch AND Mame...not at the same time), Janis Paige, Anne Francine, Harriet Harris, Christine Baranski, Kelly Bishop, and many many more that I am ultimately forgetting, as being bad is completely beyond me.
I still say Lauren Graham should headline a revival.

Mama was a good show, B3.
I won't say anymore.

Posted: 12/24/07 at 12:20amI have just never found that Herman's writing voice brings any true originality to his work...

Posted: 12/24/07 at 9:25amI kind of feel the same way about Herman actually. I never really cared much for his music. I can fully acknowledge what he contributed but he certainly sounds a little generic to me.

Posted: 12/24/07 at 10:21amGeneric sounding or not, have you ever left a good production of one of his shows and not felt good? Have you ever listened to a song of his and not tapped your foot a little bit? If you have, then does his originality (or lack thereof if you so believe) matter?

Posted: 12/24/07 at 3:14pmI'll be completely honest. I'm sure there has been a number where I've tapped my toe (which is why I said I could acknowledge is contribution). I just find a lot of it sort of boring. I think originality DOES matter when it comes to repeated listenings. For me when I'm in the mood to hear some musicals, I don't reach for Jerry Herman.

Posted: 12/24/07 at 9:13pmI disagree...I think that enjoyability out ranks originality, and Herman, for the most part, is totally enjoyable.
