Stephen Sondheim came tonight and checked out the show.
He was so nice! Autographed my playbill!
just felt like sharing...
He was not there to see the difficult Raul, but to congratulate the rest of the cast.

Amazing! I had a friend in the audience- but she doesn't stage door, nor would she have known what he looked like. Unfortunate. And she asked me to go with her. Funny.
I'm glad you were able to meet him!

It must be cramped, typing from inside Sondheim's head...

I was at the show tonight, and had to leave at ten of twelve to make my train, just before he came out. I think I am going to cry now...
All I can think of now is that line from tick tick boom:
a composer-lyricist so legendary his name may not be uttered aloud by me....
**sigh**
One day I will meet Mr. Sondheim...

No kidding, sparrman. Why take such an unnecessarily cheap shot at Raul, CPD?
In any case, great that Sondheim stopped by, BroadwayLeadMan. Glad you met him.
Do you mean that people actually wait outside until midnight?
Hard to avoid Raul, CPD, when he has the only major dressing room.

D2 - yup
Actually, Sondheim was there to meet with some people who won a charity auction. The auction prize was drinks and chat with Sondheim and Raul in Raul's dressing room. Just FYI.
Nobody told me about that auction! I could have gotten a second mortgage if I had known.

drinks and chat with Sondheim in Raul's dressing room...
wow. just. wow.
But what would you SAY?! I think I'd just sit there quietly peeing my pants, scared to death.
How cool for those of you who went last night!
CPD likes his assumptions, and now, obviously living in Sondheim's head, has decided FOR Sondheim that he should come to loathe one of the actors he supports most and knows his precise decisions.

I must ask among the others, what auction was that?!
Wow, what was the winning bid? Lord knows.
That's so awesome that you got his autograph! Did you/he say anything? How many other people were there?

oh god, I'm going to cry. Why cant there be a later train thats an express...
I dont think a lot of ppl knew that he was there, otherwise I think ppl would have waited. There were maybe like, 12 people when I left? I think..
BwayLeadman - I commend you on your ability to ask Sondheim for an autograph.
I don't get 'starstruck' easily, but I think in his presence my brain would shut down and I'd be unable to speak.
Sorry you missed him misschung. Are you going to the last show? Maybe he'll be there then?

During the run of the Dustin Hoffman revival of "Death of a Salesman," Arthur Miller was there and he signed the copy of the play I was carrying with me.
Not really related to this thread, but when you have the opportunity to say hello and get the signature of a theatre legend, I say go for it.
Sondheim was at the final performance of SWEENEY and he was sitting a couple of rows ahead of me. I didn't see him until the end because he sits on the aisle and tends to come in after the lights are down. I wouldn't know what to say to him - maybe that's what the drinks were for?
wow, how much do i hate myself for leaving right after the show last night?
UGH!

ugh, so close yet so far...sucks living in CT and needing to take the train home...
yay for everyone else who got to meet him!
I was at the first preview with Sondheim. And when I wasn't looking he quickly left out of the stage door.
talk about being crushed.
