I can’t imagine they will shutter “Oh, Mary” (which is printing money) to move in a new show at the Lyceum."
OH MARY probably all depends on Cole –– and if Cole doesn't want to continue on then finding someone to accept the daunting task of replacing them. (We don't need to list dream Marys here, that's been done on other threads, and replacing someone with a performance that lauded is easier said than done.) O,M!'s gross has climbed each of the past six weeks, which is really what every producer wants to see their show do. Kevin McCollum is also known for taking shows Off-Broadway after their Broadway runs (PLAY THAT GOES WRONG, AVE Q, and RENT). I would not be surprised at all if O,M! returns Off-Bway after Broadway, whether that's at New World or the Lortel or someplace scrappy.
If MAYBE HAPPY gets strong reviews (as some of the early buzz here indicates it might, and Jesse Green seemed to like the show out of town) and sales pick up, that might be enough to keep it going into the spring –– even if it closes around Tony time. Its producer is also behind GLENGARRY, which has no announced theatre, and could play any of those Shubert playhouses or Studio 54.
The spring is suddenly looking a little crowded.
