Can I just ask how long its been since Chicago has been without a quote unquote "name" in a role?

The last time I remember was about 3 or 4 winters ago, when Caroline O'Connor was Velma, Charlotte was Roxie, and Brent Barrett was Billy. There may have been others since, but that's the last I can recall.

There have been other times. But it's usually just a short period. Just a weeks or a month at a time. They seem to like stunting the supporting roles now. So it's surprising to see a 'name' Velma coming.

I'm with you guys on the Brenda Braxton comment. She needs to take a little vacation lol.
She's great in the role, but It's really nice to see that someone one fresh and new is going to be playing the role.

I don't think the dancing is going to be the problem. And I like Mya, but what key do you think "All That Jazz" will be in? She's by no means a belter.

I actually liked her in CHICAGO (in her two seconds on screen anyways), I think it might be fun to see a new Velma.
I wish the Weisslers hired all new performers to play all roles from Roxie to Mary Sunshine, I think the show needs new stamina to be injected in it. I hate that it has sort of become a joke on Broadway.

I like Mya a lot and would LOVE to see her in this--but I'm with Brick on this. She isn't much of a belter. "My Love Is Like...Whoa", she sort of "belts" at the end. It's a very weak belt though. She's pretty weird casting for the part. I don't think she's sassy enough. Hopefully she'll prove me wrong. I really want to see her live though! I bet she'll be decent atleast. I think she'll atleast get the dancing down.

I think Mya is least famous in the eyes of those not familiar with her body of work. Sure she's not Britney..she can actually and yes she does come off whiney but that's just the material. She has always talked about her dancing and tap dancing training since 1998. The woman can really move! If Kelly Osbourne and Ashlee Simpson get cast..why not a second string popstar cause I consider those two fourth string at best.
