Save him please, just save him
My poor Boq, my sweet, my brave him
Don't leave me till my sorry life has scene
Alone and loveless here, just the girl in the mirror
Just her and me, the Wicked Witch of the East

Even though Renee is too scared to sing in front of an audience, her voice could never hold up to 8 performances a week. Christina in my opinion has a stronger voice, and her voice is holding up just fine.

A.) I would not see Sweet Charity again if Renee was Charity....
B.) (IMO) I don't think Charlotte D'amboise is that amazing i thought she was really bad in Chicago
C.) Charlotte is supose to replace but there is a clause in her contract that alows the producers to put in another star....
I want the show to close with Christina because she is Charity Hope Valentine

I think either Paige Davis or Sarah Jessica Parker would be amazing in the role. Similar amounts of star power with both of them.

I haven't seen the new production of CHARITY, but judging from the names you are tossing about as replacements, I can only assume that the dancing demands aren't as special in this version of the show than they've been in the past. Of course when I think if SWEET CHARITY I think of Gwen Verdon, Juliet Prowse, Gretchen Wyler, Debbie Allen, Ann Reinking and Chita Rivera. These were ladies who played Charity in various Bob Fosse stagings and were true dancers. They met Fosse's incredible demands and maybe even surpassed them. The names you are mentioning can handle simple choreography but aren't "dancers" in the truest sense of the word.
I can only assume that the dancing in this version isn't nearly as complicated as it was in Fosse's original.

but lets give the people who need jobs the part, ya know?
With the Weissler's, that's not going to happen.

Dollypop - This version of Charity still calls for a trained dancer. Christina and Paige are both trained daners. Actually Paige Davis is trained in all aspects of Musical Theatre. SJP, I would imagine has dance traing too. Renee could NEVER handle the dancing, and that is a fact. It still calls for a trained dancer, but Walter Bobbie has said this - "Yes, Charity dances 3 or 4 times in the show, but that is not the soul of the character, Charity calls for a fantastic comedic actress". He has said something along those lines, and I feel this is true for the revival.

Applegate looks like the kind of trained dancer that realizes she had better go into acting because she will not have a dance career. No shame in that. She is a huge star. Jane Seymour and Emma Samms did the same thing and they are richer for it.

Love the idea and if they want to keep the show open, they had better get a "star" lined up to take Applegate's place when she leaves. It wont be Zellweger though.

^ That is just speculation. If you know anything about The Weissler's, they most likely won't end the show without trying another star. Trust me.

They should just close it now.

^ Oh go back to posting your Producers clips.
Charity is making a lot of money each week, and filling most of the Theatre. The show is here to stay.

Actually, it's barely doing break even business most weeks, with attendance typically in the 60s. It'll run, but it's far from filling the theatre.

Margo, thank you - but I keep on Charity's grosses. Whenever I talk to someone who sees the show, they tell me MOST of the theatre was filled. So maybe they aren't filling a lot for the matinees, which may be bringing down its attendance. But I knew you would come in here ready to say all my info was false.
It makes a lot more money weekly than a lot of shows are making. So I guess that is doing poorly. Whatever.

funny you say that because i was just thinking how Christina would make a great Roxie Hart. I didn't think of switching it around. I could see Renee doing that.
I also see Catherine Zeta Jones as Elphaba..but we'll just leave it at that hahaa

A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it,
but all she really dreams is to make someone
else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer.
And that is so beautiful-Anonymous

Unless you're one of the Weisslers, not sure why you seem so personally offended by the facts. Charity is not among the top dozen or so grossing shows most weeks (and the shows that gross less than they do are in smaller theatres, for the most part). It's attendance figures for the last month have been:
6/26 74.1%
6/19 67.8%
6/12 68.5%
6/5 62.7%
By any definition, that's not "filling the theatre." Far from it. That's roughly break even. As I said, it can run with those numbers, but a "hit" it's not.

I'm voting for SLP or Paige. I would love to see either of those ladies try the role. I thought Christina was adorable:)
There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.
