there's also the RENT mystery of where Mark disappears to before "One Song Glory". He claims that "Maureen calls..." and then Roger sings...meets Mimi... and suddenly Mark is back in the apt. with Roger when Collins and Angel come and he sings "Today 4 U" etc. THEN he actually goes and see's Joanne to fix the equipment.
Where does Mark wander?!

That's why "Take Me, Or Leave" me is really a reprise. Because Mark is off singing the first on with his lover, Ethan, while Roger and Mimi are singing "Light My Candle". But alas, they cut it so no one knows this...

Why else would he lie about going to Marueen's? That line always sounded fishy to me.

Ethan, btw, is also one of Maureen's ex-lovers...

Didin't you always suspect that Mark was secretly in love with Roger?
Maybe it was just the way Anthony Rapp played it.

Yes. I did susupect that Mark was secretly in love with Roger. There was one Mark I saw (I can't remember who it was) who played it like he was so in love with Roger, it was actually interesting to watch.
Now, how many of you have heard that Mimi is supposed to be high during Out Tonight? I heard that once and thought it was quite possible, because Roger sings about her and smack in Another Day, so she could have taken it after Light My Candle.

That was my impression too.
I always thought Mimi's desperation in Another Day was two-fold.
She didnt want to lose Roger or her powder.

Doesn't Mimi actually sing the first part of "Out Tonight" in her own apartment... without Roger really there?

I think you're right, Emcee. In the show, she's on the top railing, and then she walks down the stairs and ends up in the apartment. So, yes, I guess it's assumed that it's her apartment (though I always thought it was a fire escape).

I think it's written in the CD insert that the scene takes place in Mimi's apartment to start out with. I'd get up and check, but I'm feeling too lazy.

The question that I as well as others that I know had, was in "Contact" when everyone goes under the sheet, what was Mark doing? Was he filming them, was he wanking off? I mean he is the only one that does not have a comment right before they all come out of the blanket (no pun intended).

Mark was dreaming of his gay lover that he saw! Or fantasizing about Roger. ROAR!

Torontoboy, I'm not sure what you were getting at, but I've only seen RENT twice. 17 wouldn't hurt, though.

Now you're putting me on that "look how young you are!" guilt trip again.... I get that too much
Wait. "Contact." Maybe I'm crazy, but I do believe I remember seeing Mark take the camera with him under the sheets?

He did. Haven't you noticed that when Mark works for Buzzline, it never says what he does for them? Maybe he is a porn director for them, hince the quote "Ew. They're so sleazy." Huh? Huh? Anyone else think this could be true?

Mark takes his camera basically everywhere, so of course he would take it under the sheet! He is a film maker, so of course he might make adult movies to get a little extra cash (even though I doubt he does...)

And yeah... I guess it is kind of weird that no one knows just what Mark does when he takes that job. Hmmmm... Mark Cohen - East Village Man of Mystery.
