Rent movie now opening on November 25th?

On IMDB.com, under the upcoming releases page, it now lists Rent as coming out on November 25th, while it previously had it listed for November 11th.

Did they change the date... and if they did how did I (we) miss that?

I don't see that this has been discussed on here anywhere... but maybe I just suck at searching.

IMDB is the most unreliable source of movie information on internet. you'd get better info asking a bum ona street corner.
when ducks grow thumbs then maybe my opinion will change.

Official site still says November 11th.... hmm...

I'll have to notify imdb.

Yea.... i just don't understand this though. It doesn't look like a part of the website just anybody could change. It had 11/11 for a long time.... but who the hell knows?

I wish it would open November 25th. Those two weeks make a big (and often good) difference for Oscars, Golden Globes and SAG Awards.

I hope it's still the 11th, cause that being Vetern's Day, I could see it a few times during the day (assuming it's good). Then again, if it's now the 25th, then I could buy my own ticket, as I turn 17 on the 20th.

I think usually BIG movies opne for Thanksgiving so they get the 4? day weekend opening sales. So it does make more sense, but 11/11 is so much cooler.

interesting that 1/2 of Switzerland has to wait the extra four months! I rather enjoyed the list of countries in that link...finishing out with Egypt listed for April :)

re: Rent movie now opening on November 25th?

It's very possible the film will open in NYC and LA a week before the official opening. Perhaps November 11th is the limited release date? Who knows. IMDB IS actually fairly reliable. Film release dates change all the time.

re: Rent movie now opening on November 25th?

That's what I was thinking Michael Bennett, because several release dates on that page have changed, including "Jarhead" which was previously scheduled to come out on the 11th also.

If the release date were changed, I would suspect it is either due to the Thanksgiving holiday weekend or the opening of Harry Potter. I personally think it would be better for this film to open a week after Harry Potter, than the week before it. Plus, the crop of films opening this Thanksgiving weekend looks fairly week. It seems like the best chance for Rent to do some business at the box office.

re: Rent movie now opening on November 25th?

IMDB is not a valid source for information a lot of the time - especially in regards to upcoming movies.

Anyone can add/change/remove information. Editors "check" the information to see if it makes sense.
"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

After having read Anthony's posts and following this entire production closely AND having seen the trailer... I am fairly confident it won't stink.... ESPECIALLY since Anthony said the film follows the libretto almost exactly now, minus a few songs.

re: Rent movie now opening on November 25th?

PHANTOM followed the libretto of the stage show pretty much to a "T" and it stunk. Being a faithful adaptation doesn't equate a great finished product. If anything, it could be a red flag, because what works on stage doesn't always work on film. Changes are NECESSARY to make any stage show work on film.

There's something romantic about a 1990's group of East Village twenty-somethings struggling to find their way in life (i was one.) There's something pathetic about a group of East Village thirty-somethings still struggling to find their way in life.
But maybe that's just my baggage.

I agree with Michael Bennett. Additionally, I wouldn't give too much credence to Anthony Rapp's post. Of course the star of the film will insist on its high quality. His gifted writing can make Light My Candle sound spectacular but only your own eyes can tell whether Rosario Dawson's costume for that scene (as shown in the trailer) is really right for it...

re: Rent movie now opening on November 25th?

More than likely a difference in experience and personal feeling, but I - even when in doubt - didn't really suspect Anthony of trying to make things sound better than they were, or to swindle us into believing so. I know we can't fully judge until we see, but I've always felt like he was being totally honest - sure, his faith in the project is because he's working on it, but I've come to figure that they wouldn't let this go a way it shouldn't go. You have on board not only actors who are a huge part of what RENT is, but actors who understand film as well. I suppose defense of Anthony's posts isn't what this should become, really, but... I don't think I know what I'm trying to say. *sigh*

Thank you Emcee. Well put.

And Michael Bennett... just because you thought Phantom "stunk", does NOT make it a fact. I enjoyed the Phantom film immensely!

Overall, they (meaning the cast) aren't that experienced in film production, nor are they likely to spend considerable time in the editing room with Columbus. I'm not convinced that they have much control over which way this goes or that they know for sure how to make this material work for film. Plenty of films are problematic even when the cast's heart is in it. Just read the interviews with Colin Farrell about Alexander.

re: Rent movie now opening on November 25th?

Yes, my opinion of course. Totally subjective. But as a generalization, PHANTOM got horrible reviews and audience response was tepid. Surely, you wouldn't want the same for a film of RENT?
