Posted: 6/18/13 at 2:30pmJust curious if anyone found out why Genevieve Angelson was quietly (like, not even mentioned in the recent extension announcement) replaced in Vanya and Sonia at LCT? She was dynamite when I saw the show awhile back, but I heard she's been out for awhile and LCT's website lists a new cast member entirely.

when i went on may 4th, the had it listed as an understudy, who was Liesel Allen Yeager (excellent). I asked her afterwards how many times she had gone on, and she said it had been a about 3 weeks, which was strange because the show had opened just a weeks before when i saw it.
I then noticed a few weeks later on playbill vault that she had completely taken over for the part. not really sure what happened here.

I also find it kind of confusing that Angelson left and the show doesn't seem to be acknowledging it. As was said, the recent press release about the extension still said that she was in the cast, and she was mentioned as a cast member in the Tonys acceptance speech (and the understudy was not).
It's not clear to me whether the understudy is listed as the main cast member because she has permanently taken over the part, or if it's because of the Equity rule that the understudy has to be listed as the main cast member after a certain period of time and Angelson is actually coming back at some point. I'm sure the understudy is wonderful as well, but I really enjoyed Angelson's performance and I hope she returns.

Looking at her IMDB page, it seems that after doing the Off-Broadway run of the play, after two months of the Broadway transfer she was let out of her contract so she could pursue TV and film offers she was getting. I'm glad she's making the transition, but why she would leave a Tony-winning Broadway hit after two months makes no sense to me.
BTW, the girl is beautiful but needs to eat a cheeseburger, like, immediately. She is scary-thin.
