Hello. Wonderful and amazing stories. I can't wait for the official BWW photos of the closing night show and closing night party. (I'm assuming there was one.) Anyway, I found this little tidbit of news that will thrill Patti's Australia and New Zealand fans.... from Liz Smith's Page Six column from 1-11-09:
Patti LuPone gives her final matinee of "Gypsy" today, takes her two Tonys, and goes on the road with "Evita" co-star Mandy Patinkin after a brief rest. They'll tour this spring in "An Evening With Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin," stopping in LA, going on to Australia and New Zealand in July.

BNN, you spoke to him? I was too affraid to. I would have probably just went "Uhh..." anyway. I know he despises people recognizing him and talking to him in public so I didn't want to piss him off.
Here are the pictures I took during the curtain call - cell phone quality:

Patti's bouquet is almost as big as she is!

Oh, Patti decided she wanted the "Patti LuPone Tony Winner" sign that was hanging, so her son helped theatre personnel take it down, wrap it up and put it on top of their SUV. More pics...

dont get me wrong, im not trying to be mean at all... but this is in reference to a post about some of the ushers at the st. james being nasty. but in this house i can see where it comes from. the house manager (although he is the cutest thing ever) is really not a nice person from the three experiences ive had with him and this probably trickles down to his staff. thats probably why some of them are so miserable.

I managed to snap a few pictures during curtain call as well with my very blurry, tempermental camera. This was after I was accused of taking pictures during Rose's Turn which I most certainly did not, unlike many others. And I did talk to Sondheim briefly, but not near the stage door, it was farther up on 44th, but I just said how thankful I was for everything he has ever done and he thanked me. Anytime I meet someone like him I just try to be gratious and to the point, and then run away before it gets awkward. :)

One of the interesting tidbits that I picked up backstage is that the sets, props and costumes for this production were being stored for a tour. There is no word on whether Patti will head the tour. If she does, there will certainly be another opportunity for a PBS taping. No one seemed to know anything about the status of a London production.

Really Dollypop? That would be absolutely wonderful, and I'd be interested to see who all would take over either on tour or in London. If they don't want the costumes, I will be more than glad to take them off of their hands.

I honestly can't imagine Patti touring in this show at this point in her career, but maybe a 5 week run in LA or 5 weeks in Chicago might work. Dunno. It's only speculation on my part.
CarolynaGirl, cell phone or not, those are wonderful photos! Thanks so much for sharing.
Yes, thank you, Carolyna. Did you happen to get one when Patti's son brought her the bouquet?
Dollypop, I hope your speculation is right.
Carolyna and BNN, thanks for the pix. They are great!
All of you who have shared your closing performance experience, thank you.
Hey, everyone who camped out for those student rush tickets, God bless you, I wish I could have been there with ya! (i don't think i could pass as a student, though)
Thanks to everyone from the show. While I totally love Patti, and always will, I think everyone in the cast was just wonderful, especially Boyd, Laura, and Leigh Ann, and Tony, and... well, forget it, EVERYONE! I wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
I'm so thankful to have witnessed this great ensemble and great individual performances that was Patti LuPone GYPSY!
does anybody have a final week playbill they would be willing to part with? please pm me. thank you.

Another hint of a tour (and I just realized this!):
The last words Patti said in her curtain speech were, "So this is not 'goodbye'. It's 'fare thee well'" It could be a suggestion that the production may have an after-life. Also, in his dressing room, Boyd encouraged me to write to the producers and tell them I wanted the show back. I thought he was joking, but if a tour is being considered, a return to Broadway might be a possibility.
Again, this is just speculation on my part.
it'd be awesome if this show, and especially this cast, went on tour. but if the costumes are being stored, does this mean Patti didn't steal everything she could carry?
givesmevoice, when we were there on Jan. 1, I asked Patti at the stagedoor what she was going to take. She looked at me and said in a confused manner, "What am I going to take?". I repeated my question and she said, "OH! I don't know yet. What do you think?" I told her for sure the bracelet she wears. She said, "Oooh, That would be good".
I really want to know what she carried out along with that sign!
Sounds like they may have foiled her plans, or who know, maybe she took stuff anyway!
This is her son delivering the flowers from where my friend was sitting. I did not get a picture of it from the center though.
and this is Patti throwing flowers to the audience...
MissAnneThrop, I have an extra playbill. That's another thing - I was disappointed there was no hint of it being the closing show on the closing night playbill.

if there was a tour, and Patti did it, would they wait until her tour with Mandy ended? or would they make plans before that, so when that tour is done, she could do Gypsy?

Now you're taking speculation to another level!
