Please. A Trainwreck?
Coming from the person who LOVES Bombay Dreams....
Let's say "trainwreck" is too strong. Maybe "Beautiful" would work better in this case. IN THIS CASE.
Thank you BSoBW3
I see Bombay in June (most likely for free). I purchased the cast recording and promptly gave it away. But I will see the show, just to see it. I was going to see it in New York but, well, it didn't seem to be open long enough for me to get back to see it!
well...i can at least talk because i have seen both Bombay Dreams and The Color Purple. I loved the movie The Color Purple, but the show lost its magic i think, i did like the "Africa" scene though.
and for your record, whoever was saying i have bad taste for theatre, i did like The Color Purple, so that would be saying that the show is bad i guess. I think it was a trainwreck and i think the film was way better. But i did like the show.
The show is not based on the movie. It is based on the book. Have you read the book? If not, maybe that's why you think it is a trainwreck. The movie left a lot out and changed some things. For example, Shug going back to church didn't happen in the book. But if you liked the show, why do you think it is a trainwreck?

"I think it was a trainwreck . . . But i did like the show."
I seem to be missing something here.
TCP was a trainwreck but i liked it anyways, i also liked "Dracula" and the show was a trainwreck. "Mamma Mia" is a bad show and i also liked it, do i think it's good? probably not.
define trainwreck.
let's just drop it...The Color Purple is not a trainwreck. It is a great show. I take that back.

Color Purple is not a trainwreck.
It is not beautiful and brilliant either.
I don't know, though, maybe there's something about being a non-Christian white guy that kept me from fully experiencing the show, but IMHO the winner of "Best Musical" should be worth the full advertised price of a ticket solong as money is no object. To me, Color Purple was worth about $50 (I saw it for rush tickets, so it was worth what I paid and more).
Yes, the cast were great, and I hope that Felicia Fields does get best supporting actress. Yes I bought the CD (Not difficult when J&R had it for $5.99). However, the CD barely gets a play on my iPod because there are only four or five songs I really like enough to listen to regularly out of the 20+ on the CD.
/expects Jersey Boys to win right now...wouldn't pay $100 for it, but would probably pay $85-90.
A lot of people are comparing to the movie, which is unfair since it is based on the book. It is quite possible that there are things that those not in the Black community may not get. No, it is not brilliant but I thought it was wonderful. And as I have said before, the only problem I had was with the pacing and Mr. Legg's performance the evening I saw it. I really love the OBCR and think they did a good job of transferring the story from the stage to the CD. But we are all entitled to our opinions. I do, however, plan to see it again this June.
I was not impressed at all with the movie...I think the play represents the message of the book much better.
And I think a lot of people going in to see the show are expecting it to be based on the movie. The evening I went, people were saying "I loved the movie". I personally enjoyed the movie but knew not to expect the show to be like the movie because it is based on the book.
Totally agree about Norm playing Mister ! I want to hear someone with knockout vocal cords singing "Celie's Curse" !!!
How about Michael McElroy playing Mister? Too young, perhaps, but
what a voice !!
