The one with Donna is better...
Yes, it absolutely is.
Hi.
Are you only thinking of recently-released CDs, or any revival released at any time?
The one with Donna is NOT better. It doesn't have Jennifer Hope Wills singing. Get them both and see.
Chicago
Wonderful Town (Either one) It's nice to hear a belter Ruth, and especially nice to hear a Ruth sung in the style of Roz Russell (Brooke.)
Sweet Charity (1986 and 2005)
Cabaret
Sweeney Todd
just to name a few.

Nine
Sorry - here is one revival NOT worth buying. I recently purchased the 1991 London Palladium Revival Cast of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat" with Jason Donovan and Linzi Hatley. After listening to it straight through, my first reaction was - "This recording has completely destroyed every note of the show!" Hatley's version of the Narrator is an abomination compared to Laurie Beechman in the 1982 Broadway Cast with Bill Hutton. And the orchestrations in this 1991 version (which I believe were done by Lloyd Webber himself) really do destroy every song - ever song is way over the top. The only parts which are passable are Donovan's two songs - "Close Every Door" and "Any Dream Will Do".
Stick with the 1982 Broadway Cast, especially for Laurie Beechman's voice!
Original and revival recordings of Damn Yankees, Nine, Sweeney Todd, How to Succeed in Business, Man of LaMancha, Carousel, She Loves Me, and 1776 are necessary.
Take a pass revival recordings of Sweet Charity, Pacific Overtures, Company, Little Me, and Into the Woods.
and get Lansbury's "Gypsy"
I'm having really serious deja vu. Didn't I just post in this thread?
Anyhow.
Nine is my favorite revial cast recording - I love it. Also the Angela Gypsy.
And I'm becoming very fond of the new Pajama Game - it's adorable.
ohmigod I want to 1993 Toronto "Show Boat" SOOOOO BAD.
"She Loves Me", too.
My favorite revival recordings are definitely
Damn Yankees
Cabaret (which were the first two cast recordings I ever bought)
Carousel (Broadway edition, with Audra McDonald - who is magnificent, as well as Sally Murphy)
How to Succeed
The Pajama Game
Annie Get Your Gun (with Bernadette Peters)
Gypsy (Angela Lansbury, but I like the Bette Midler soundtrack too)
Into the Woods (some people prefer this one, I'm included, though some lyric changes are weird)
No, No, Nanette
South Pacific in Concert (Brian Stokes Mitchell, Reba McEntire)
Brigadoon (Studio, with Brent Barrett and Rebecca Luker)
Dreamgirls in Concert (to hear the full score)
Sweeney Todd
Assassins (2004 - I think I'm in the minority in this one, but I really prefer it)
i MUCH prefer the revival of Assassins.
i love the orchestrations.
Most defiantly get
H2$
Once Upon A Mattress(I liked the orchestrations better, and "Spanish Panic" was so much better on the revival)
Damn Yankees
Oliver - 1994 London Cast(Sally Dexter is amazing)
Gypsy(Tyne Daly, she is my favourite Rose)
