While Sutton Foster would be a good choice to play Mabel, Hunter is just all wrong.
Tyne Daly did a lovely job on the job application number from Ballroom at the Nothing Like A Dame benefit early this year.

I would love to see the London revival of GUYS AND DOLLS come to NYC. Does that count?

I saw BALLROOM way back when, and there were moments of real magic in the staging. I still vividly remember the first time we see the ballroom itself: the transition was amazing and seamless.
But a revival? Not likely, not without a completely rewritten book.
But I still think the time's right for a major revival of ANYONE CAN WHISTLE -- God knows it would be topical right about now.

I believe Mack & Mabel has got to be revived soon. There was to be a revival in 2002 (correct me if I'm wrong) that was to star Douglas Sills as Mack, Jane Krakowski as Mabel, and Donna McKechnie as Lottie. Apparently when Krakowski had to pull out, the backers pulled out as well (I wish she could still play the role as she was magnificent in the Reprise! production in LA).
I agree with Anyone Can Whistle though I doubt we'll ever see it on Broadway again unless Roundabout wanted to do a limited engagement with three major stars helming the show (i.e Jane Krakowski as Nurse Apple, Patti LuPone or Bernadette Peters as Majoress Cora, etc).
I was thinking of of BALLROOM again, and I think Carol Burnett would do brilliantly.
JEROME ROBBINS' BROADWAY was magnificent--I saw it 4 times. But it will never be shown on Broadway again because of the huge production costs. It had an extremely long rehearsal period with a very large cast which cost the producers (the Shubert Organization et al) a fortune. But it was wonderful.
BYE BYE BIRDIE with Tommy Tune as an excellent Albert, Ann Reinking as Rosie, and Marilyn Cooper as an hysterical mother, toured the US in the 1990's but for some reason never made it to Broadway. I think it would have done very well here. Supposedly Tommy Tune did not want to bring a revival to NYC, only an original show.
Incidentally, who can explain Tommy Tune's absence from Broadway over the past decade? The last I heard from him was doing a duet with Barbara Cook on her 2003 CD titled "Close as Pages in a Book".
TommyTune was doing Doctor Dolittle on tour not that long ago. it just closed
I wish Doctor Dolittle could have made it to Broadway. It truly was a very good production (sets, costumes, performances, special effects, etc.)
unfortunately, you're the only one who felt that way, americanboy99
Evita, there is alot of talk about the new London revival opening up next fall on broadway so I'm hoping. Rumor is that Hairspray will close and Evita will take its place. I just love this show and would hope that when it comes back that it is extremely successful.
Chess, again another great show and I think that if they re-worked the plot it could work. Again Time Rice has been saying for years that he is re-working the book.
Democracy, this was a short lived play during the 2004-5 season which I thought was just brilliant. It truly was one of the best nights I have ever had at the theatre and feel so lucky to have seen this show.
I would die happily if I never saw DEMOCRACY again...
