Let's see. Most of my favorite old-school musicals (Cabaret, Gypsy, Man of La Mancha) have had revivals in the last few years...while the newer stuff is, well, newer.
Musicals:
-My Fair Lady. It's just due.
-Lady in the Dark. I'd like to see this one, perhaps in a bit of a revisal.
-Merrily We Roll Along. There needs to be a definitive good production of the show.
-The Threepenny Opera. There was a pretty radical revision of the show done at the Donmar Warehouse ten years ago; I think that it could be a really interesting show. 'course, I love the Weill score.
Plays:
-Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead. It's just the funniest play this side of Aristophanes, 'sall.
-Knights, Peace, Wealth, Lysistrata, Thesmophoriazusae, Ecclisiazusae, The Birds, The Wasps, The Clouds, The Acharnians, and/or The Frogs. Speaking of Aristophanes, why doesn't someone bring good old Low Comedy back? Lysistrata is the only play of his that's shown on Broadway; seriously, these are some of the funniest things ever written. And they're just as vital social commentary today as they were in the 5th century BC.
-I am a Camera. Who says Sally Bowles has to stay off Broadway? John Van Druten's play is very different from Cabaret (much closer to the film than the stage show) but still brilliant.
-The Children's Hour. I'd probably say The Little Foxes edges it out as Hellman's overall best play, but the character portraits in Children's Hour are just as compelling, and it's more of a naturalistic work. Plus, it's downright unjust that a play as good as The Children's Hour has never been revived.
I think that's a pretty healthy list.

Correction to myself: The Children's Hour has been revived, but it was over 50 years ago.

They should make it a play just like the movie ala Gloria Swanson nothing can beat that.
DEF Brigadoon! some amazing tunes...also lets bring in the London My Fair Lady! I would also love to see South Pacific revived.

WSS2 - Do you mean like Urinetown, Avenue Q, Caroline or Change, Bombay Dreams or Assassins? Original stuff happens, but it's not always successful.
Westside Story
AMEN to Robber Bridegroom!
Victor/Victoira.....and I wish it could happen but never in a million years would: with the original cast! muhahaha...I need to go back in time for that one.

I'm saying that we rely so much on reviving what has already been done.No one wants to take a chance on anything new.
That's the real issue. Nothing wrong with revivals. Just not five or six a year. Especially when there are many works out there just waiting.

Wow. That's the first time I've ever heard anybody say that. Thank you, THANK YOU, WSS2 for that groundbreaking analysis.
Ummm.....
can someone please tell me what's wrong with sharing an opinion here?
At least I have one to share Namo instead of always making rude, off topic comments.

Golly, you can't even praise genius without it being misconstrued.

I wonder what will happen when CATS is revived. Do you think it will be revived?
I mean, its the longest running Broadway musical and all that jazz, so why wouldn't they revive it?
I personally am terrified of that show and its SO strange, but I've never seen it on stage. I've been in a version of it and I've seen videos, but I'm not sure if I would see a revival. Maybe just to say I did.
