Riedel on Hamilton not breaking Tony record for wins

Everything he's predicting here is what I'm predicting come Tony night, so I agree with him. The article is a little annoying, to say the least, but he's (hopefully) not wrong, because if at least Glover and Erivo don't win, it will be a damn shame.

I get that the Tony voters will vote for Cynthia Erivo because she has a better performance than Soo in their opinions, but if they are not voting for Leslie and Philippa because they helped to get the original cast some extra profit, they are outta their goddamn minds! This isn't a political race, this is Best Performance by an Actor/Actress in a Leading Role.

Good- not because of Hamilton backlash, but because, think of it this way- the shows that are the longest runners in the past 30 years, haven't won the most tony awards. The Producers & Billy Elliot are long gone and in retrospect were fine, but not really groundbreaking. Les Mis, Phantom, Wicked did just fine with their non- record tony wins.

completely agree with Michael's article on the basis that the show should win for categories that it is in fact the best in.....musical, book, score for sure: LOCKED. Featured actor, actress little more questionable but I think most of us who have seen the show agree that the cast is wonderful. I honestly thin the rest of the categories have better work nominated than Hamilton....especially in the choreography nominees....Savion's work is for more essential to the story of shuffle along's Andy's in Hamilton. It should be a sweep for sweeps sake. A show should have the most tony awards ever because it deserves them....not even the Producers deserved all of the awards it got....score for one over David Yazbek's tuneful, hilarious, tender Full Monty

Well I agree with him on the awards that Hamilton might not win. Leading actress, choreography, costumes and scenic design may all go to other people. (Although the only one out of these that would really surprise me if it did go to Hamilton is leading actress).
People not voting for Soo/Odom because they fought for a share of the profits is ridiculous though, as is being salty about the book (Hamilton: The Revolution). I'm failing to see what was pretentious about the book, as someone who has read it all.

Yes, the piece made me wonder who Reidel hangs out with and talks to. Producers? I haven't read him much but wonder if he is like the paper he writes for. That would be, someone who views things through a right wing slant or at least knows which side the bread is buttered.
I also notice that called the obvious tight races in hoping that the Producers keeps its Tony record. What about best featured actor in a musical? With three nominees from Hamilton, he didn't mention that. Too hard to call?

I haven't read the book, and have no intention of ever doing so, but that title alone! Really! As far as self-importance is concerned, though, the show itself has more than enough to spare.
Anyhow, let's hope The Producers still holds the record after Tony night. But I'm inclined to doubt it.

lol All of riedel's article related to Hamilton are written with an anti-hamilton slant. he kind of reminds me of those right wing or left wing medias. I'm not saying that Hamilton will beat the record. I agree that Savion Glover could snag choreography (although I love Andy Blanc's choreo) . and Cynthia deserves best actress,But seriously calling the Hamiltome pretentious and self important? lol I've read it and it was actually really cool to see the behind the scenes and I'm sure all those kids who can't afford to see the show appreciate it.
He's always been so bitter over Lin as well. When it was leaked that In the Heights was nominated for a pulitzer he kept going on about how it didn't deserve to win like it affected him personally.

That's fair but I remember the way he described it was like he had something personal against the show. He even compared it to "Harold and the Purple Crayon" I could probably find the article. It just makes me think he has something against Lin

Lin does have a way of rubbing people the wrong way- I have no problem with him, but he is very polarizing, especially people who seem to know him professionally.

He seems to be really well liked among most theatre actors and composers from what I've seen. Riedel is really the only person who seems to dislikes him so much and I've followed theatre for awhile. I don't think he's "polarizing" at all lol.

Without revealing too much I've met Lin in a professional setting (I didn't work with him, just clarifying) and he was nothing if not gracious and humble and not polarizing at all.
I wish more people I met were are polarizing as he is.
