ozjust4, pre-Broadway, Riedel wrote one of his typical gossip pieces about how the producers were feuding about shares and Miranda and Seller were fighting about when they were going to transfer to Broadway. So the production called a news conference that was held at the Public like the next day at which they basically said "no we are not." I'm sure you can search for all of this if you want to read details.

hamilton deserves all the recognition its getting and as many tonys as they can carry home

does anyone think the producers will be remembered as a more importnt or impactiful musical than hamilton?

Why does this read like a "blind item" column? Do real people even speak like this?

Hamilton may very well not break the Tony record for wins -- but it's not gonna be because people are angry at Phillipa Soo for being financially savvy, or resentful of Lin-Manuel Miranda for being damningly gracious. Shockingly, the voters might deem people in other shows more worthy of getting the award.

If Riedel states that the only way that the people involved Hamilton can lose in their categories is through "backlash", he is insinuating with the same breath that the Hamilton nominees deserve to win in their categories and face unjust retaliation. He can't have it both ways. He's a contrary teenager who gets off on raising hackles, and if he wants his criticism taken seriously, then it has to be founded on a more solid foundation than "boo hoo, I hate rhyming".

Riedel pens something negative about Hamilton?! Shocker.

He has publicly said he is doing this to be the voice of dissent.

And no one cares.

He's over and done.

Actress, set design, choreography, and possibly best actor have always been the categories where Hamilton is not a given.



I think his "informal poll" is really him reading our thread.

"I get Riedel is negative about a lot of things and that's "his thing." But he does too much with Hamilton."



And those who hype it on and on and on and on and on ...

Too much?

You know you're dealing with a juggernaut when it seems surprising that a show WON'T break the record.

Merely because it's a dull morning, I'll take the time to point out one more example in the Endless List of Examples of Riedel's Laziness and Bad Writing: I adored Savion Glover's Shuffle Along choreography, but for Riedel to say that Glover "brilliantly re-created the original musical’s dances while giving them a modern spin," is just idiotic. Glover's work is 100% his own; the original staging to Shuffle has long vanished, along with the original orchestrations and dance arrangements. There was absolutely no "re-creating" here.

God I really hope voters are mature enough to vote for whoever they actually think is most deserving, and that they refuse to get swept up in hype to make it break records OR in backlash to make sure it doesn't.

Riedel is a self-confessed sh*t-stirrer with little credibility. He's been trying to dismantle Hamilton for a long time, but always embarrasses himself. No reason to believe this nonsense any more than anything else he's said on the subject.
