Anyone else think Taymor and M.Butterfly are a good match?
Yes, I'd totally see this, especially if they have some top actors as Gallimard and Song.
I think Taymor is a visionary and brilliant designer/director. What she isn't is a storyteller. When she controls the story the projects fail. So, with this, the story is already so great, I think this could be quite magical.
Just don't give her another 75 million dollars. It's not that hard.
Spiderman was just a **** show from the beginning. I mean, Bono's music was....awful.... The book was ... awful... The entire concept was confusing.... I think if they had come to her with a decent enough story and good, interesting songs, it could have worked with her vision. I remember when the bank robbers hobbled across the stage and had these big, puppet-like heads on and I thought "wow, that's really interesting" and I thought then that her vision made sense. And there was another scene where they're walking the set is unfolding like a comic book, and I thought "wow, that's really cool." So, I think there were moments of really interesting concepts interspersed with confusing storytelling and a dud of a score.
