Riedel on Monopoly : The Musical

Between this and his character breakdown for the Cher musical, I'm beginning to think Elice's work on Jersey Boys was a fluke.

Thanks for making these Riedel threads, 10086sunset. I wouldn't read him otherwise and they seem to spark interesting conversations.

^ now that would just be boring, what would happen in a monopoly world? Not what you see in Jumanji or Zathura. I'd rather not have this at all. They should just stick to adapting the clue movie for the stage.

It's about the creation of the game, not the game itself. So that could be somewhat interesting.

Carnzee, thanks. I agree with you that they can spark some interesting conversations.

perfectliar, I would rather no show based off a board game, not when the title comes first before plot, story, music and lyrics. I'd rather an original show not based off a title that people think will serve as a good marketing tool. All this said, I hope I'm proven wrong and they are able to make something of this. Simply think the odds are stacked against them.

You think that without reading a single word, hearing a single note, or seeing a single scene? Incredible!

Liza, you think the opposite without reading a single word, hearing a single note or seeing a single scene? I find that more incredible.

All shows are crap until proven quality. And vice-versa.

Having read the article, I came to realize the show isn't what I thought it would be and actually sounds quite intriguing.

If the title inspires an interesting plot, story, music and lyrics, who cares? Inspiration can come from any source. If the writing and composition are strong, they're strong.

I'd rather an original show not based off a title that people think will serve as a good marketing tool.

That's no guarantee of quality, either: In My Life, Glory Days, The Story of My Life, The Capeman, Brooklyn, The Pirate Queen, 13, The People in the Picture, Lysistrata Jones, First Date, The Last Ship, It Shoulda Been You, In Transit...

A new 1930s musical comedy with an original score based on a true story of rags to riches success? I'm open to that.
