Not sure this is the team I'd see for this project - I think I'd rather the Amelie composers, but curious to see what they come up with.

all they need to do is rework some of evita and they have it. Aside a few lyric changes Oh what a circus would fit in easily, every time i watch the movie im reminded of similarities with the death of diana
the musical itself sounds awful, very cheesy and a very one sided view of her, she was no angel and a musical focusing purely on her as a victim sounds like every naff movie thats been made so far. Also, Americans view of britain and british culture can sometimes be a bit twee, and this aubject matter should have some bite to it

I thought of the Evita comparison too, but then Eva Peron was so hungry for fame and that made for an interesting heroine of a musical (and the music has that great Latin sound.)
Diana, sort of passively fell fame which, for me, would be less interesting to see on stage.

Of course people can be versatile and may have some surprising depths when challenged but I don't know if anyone would have picked those songwriters given the material and a choice. It makes more sense the way it's recounted as DiPietro reading the book and getting inspired. This part of the article isn't very encouraging...
"Bryan’s eclectic score ranges from ’80s pop for Diana, to punk rock (think the Clash) for the paparazzi, classical for Charles and traditional musical theater for Camilla and the queen.
“Most people don’t know this, but David studied at Juilliard so he’s got a lot of musical knowledge to draw on,” says DiPietro. “And I think we have a unique take on the story. I mean, we’re two guys from New Jersey. What the f–k do we know about the royals?”

Died VERY quickly--was it ALW?
This sounds like an awful idea---a Charles and Camilla duet??? and a singing Queen[yes I know!] and a lamenting Diana how he 'done her wrong'.
I agree--a play would be ideal but the thought of the 2 of them, Diana and Camilla[who would sign up for that ugly role??] singing off to 'Can't help lovin' that man' makes me cringe.
Will we be having all the affairs-the Indian Dr,,the hunky red-head,the man from Harrods,the gay butler[handbag]--actually that alone could make a good musical[chairs]. otherwise it could be another car crash all over again.
Let the poor Princess rest in peace, she gave us 2 beautiful sons for the world to remember her,she doesn't need a silly musical.

This sounds terrific. I can't wait to hear Charles singing "How to Handle a Woman" and Diana's mash-up of "Flaming Agnes/Without You/So Long, Dearie." Then the two young princes, after the divorce, plaintively singing "If Mama Was Married" watching her cavort across the globe with Dodi. And of course, the 11:00 o'clock number, "Tunnel of Love," which ends abruptly with loud crashing chords and strobe lights.

So does Helen Mirren sing? Because I think there is now a clause that no other actress is allowed to play Elizabeth II.

Good grief yes...oi. However I'm not a fan of this idea at all. I see where people are coming from with the Evils comparisons, but Di still more or less passively fell into that world, she wasn't a climber. She wasn't called the people's princess for no reason. I don't see as a stage property at all, but I have been wondering for a while now why there hasn't been some big, Hollywood, feature film about her and her life, because THAY would be of more interest I think.

I'm only assuming you're joking since we have Claire Foy currently killing it in The Crown. Which I'm obsessed with as a sidenote.

She may have been innocent in the early days but she manipulated and courted the media and used them for her own propaganda. She knew what she was doing and unfortunately created a monster
