Riedel finally outs his producer/lapdog relationship in this piece.

That Critic sounds like a nightmare. He should fell lucky that he still had a job in a quickly narrowing field.

That critic is David Rooney. It's obvious that Rudin forwarded his email chain to Riedel. He wants this in the press. And now if Rooney has anything negative to say, it can have less validity because it could be seen as payback. (That is, seen as payback by those who work in the industry and those who read these message boards.)

When will Riedel notice that his watch has been stolen?

1. no one thinks Rooney's review will be influenced by any of this.
2. Rooney does not have a job.

With this cast and the shows pedigree, doubt the critics can hurt this in any way.

Classical music critics always attend the "opening night" (aka, first night of a run) and frequently turn their reviews around in less than a day. Tony Tommasini's review of Tristan und Isolde last week was published online less than 12 hours after the curtain came down, meaning he either wrote it immediately after seeing the performance or early the next day. It's also common for critics in the major regional theater markets to attend the actual opening nights of the productions they review. It seems like Rooney is the only one in a tizzy about this, and that seems more related to his personal plans than anything else.

How stupid was David Rooney to put all that in an email to Scott Rudin, OF ALL PEOPLE?
Rudin is a known barracuda, and Rooney made himself vulnerable to him--ON EMAIL!
Why don't people realize that what they think are private emails are the opposite of private?
Stupid, stupid, David Rooney!

First of all, the email went to the press agent, not Rudin. Secondly, what about this is stupid on Rooney's part? He could not care one iota that all this is public. Vulnerable? Seriously? Guess again.

Is there such a thing as a smart theatre reviewer? What kind of person pursues a job that not only pays less than the average administrative assistant, but that also kills your love for theatre by making you sit through all the bad stuff you would never have chosen to see?
They're more to be pitied than censured, these strange creatures...

...does anybody even care about what David Rooney thinks or does?

What I find interesting if Harvey had done this and cancelled critics till opening night , would you be praising him the same way some of you are Scott. Just a thought nothing more.

if he had done it for the same reason, the reaction would have been the same. if he had done it for some other reason, the reaction would depend on the reason. People do not like either of them so if you are suggesting the contrary you are off base.
