Grandage is making one thing very clear and it has gotten Disney in trouble before. YOU MUST BE BEAUTIFUL TO BE A DISNEY PRINCESS. IT IS OUT THERE IN PRINT AS CLEAR AS DAY, I am surprised other media outlets didn't pull his comments out for discussion. Lets be fair here: Betsy Wolfe is a belter and a know quantity as a lead actress in multiple productions over the years. When you look at Grandage's statement knowing those basic facts,it insinuates beauty and his version of beauty is a must if you want to be a Disney Princess. I am not sure whypeople didn't pick that up right away. This day in age that kind of a statement needs to be talked about. The director ofFrozen which was supposed to be a story with two strong female characters seems to be setting strong women back with his comments. So many young girls who don't really understand the world from an adult perspective yet will see this show and it is wrong that the director at the helm lists beauty as a prerequisite for them to view themselves asa disney princess."
Not so much beautiful, but TRADITIONALLY beautiful. You know who was a huge star but wasn't wisely considered traditionally beautiful? Audrey Hepburn. The thing is, Caissie's standby is Alyssa Fox, who def is an out of the box look for the role and still got it. It's the cookie cutter beautiful that gets old and annoying when it comes to Disney casting, as if anyone even slightly outside the typical cookie cutter mold can't play their favorite Disney heroine/hero.
Also, this is in the Frozen thread too btw.
