June 20, 2007 -- THE critics slammed him and the Tonys snubbed him, but give Kevin Spacey his due: He's still a Broadway star.
"A Moon for the Misbegotten" ended its run June 10 well into the black, defying certain normally infallible pundits who thought Spacey was, to use an expression from his adoptive England, "past his sell-by date."
Investors in the $2 million production should see a 30 percent return, making "Moon" one of the few shows this season to turn a profit.
By contrast, "Spring Awakening," adored by the critics and winner of eight Tony awards, has recouped only about 35 percent of its $5.5 million investment - though since the Tonys, the box office has picked up nicely.
"You raked us over the coals and you were dead f - - - ing wrong," Ben Sprecher, the producer of "Moon," reminded me yesterday.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

> I was too polite to remind him that he also produced the Joan Collins/Linda Evans flop tour of "Legends."
too polite to tell him in a private conversation, but *not* too polite to tell him in front of hundreds of thousands of people.

I couldn't agree with you more springo - - - Eve Best should have won, that role
was so draining and demanding - - - not to mention doing it 8 times a week.
I do love Julie White, but this time I feel a huge mistake was made, I would think it was
all political, Miss Best would have to take her Tony home to London! ! ! !
Anyway, I am sure all the investors are laughing all the way to the BANK. That is
very important as well.
