They sound good, but much better in the context of the show...
Swenson is so great !!!

Holy crap... that was one mess of a train wreck. That poor guy having to be sharp and clever with that embarrassingly lame intro.
That performance is definitely NOT going to work in getting any additional audience. If anything, they just lost any potential tickets sales from that alone. Mine included.
Yikes!

You have to take it in the context of the show. It's supposed to be cheesey and make fun of itself. But it must be hard to go into that song w/o the buildup of the 1st act.
The show is amazingly awesome and fun. We just might run into the city again tomorrow to see it after this little taste.

I thought they did great! They looked a bit nervous. Constantine sounded magical. I love this song in the show. I love this show.

I thought that as a whole, the performance last night (this morning?
It is about the celebration of the "hair metal" / "classic rock" music of the 1980s...the excesses of the "Sunset Strip" scene...and giving a taste of the tongue-in-cheek, wink-through-the-fourth-wall humor of the show...along with the powerful voices, tight choreography and crackerjack band performing 8 shows a week at New World Stages.
The only negative (and yes, I'm hard pressed to find one, but I need to *try* and be a little less biased) would be that it had to be a cold start to such a big number...with this show, each number seems to build on the momentum of the previous one. But still, the cast pulled it off.
I was thrilled to actually watch the broadcast with the producers, cast and band at the TONY Lounge and everyone seemed to really be in terrific spirits before and after the performance...and I'm hoping they all went home and got some rest as they probably had a terribly long day, with rehearsals for Conan, the broadcast...AND two shows last night!
Thanks for starting this thread, Passion2!

I happened to flip to CONAN in the middle of the performance. Not my thing but I'm sure it'll appeal to someone. I honestly thought it was some strange Conan gag, then I realized the time of night meant it had to be the musical guest. It seemed more like a medley without any kind of context.

A medley consisting of one song? not sure if I follow.
that aside I thought the performance was good... i find whenever musicals are featured on these kinds of shows with numbers plucked out of context it's a little hard to really get too excited by it. Maybe there are some examples but I can't think of any. That being said I thought it captured the silliness of the show and the cast sold the crap out of it so kudos!

The cast was fabulous last night!
Even if you haven't seen the show or have no idea about the story it was fun to watch.
GREAT JOB!!!

Posted: 11/15/08 at 3:41pmI had a lukewarm reaction to the performance. They all did a great job performing the song but I think it presented too many plot points that were unnecessary to play a song to sell the show. Its nice to do a song that includes everyone but sometimes you have to keep it simple and show off something that doesnt make people wonder who all those people are and why theyre doing whatever theyre doing. Show openers and love songs tend to make the most sense out of context to the unfamiliar viewer I think... but maybe they just needed to do less staging. Or maybe I just had my marketing cap on too long yesterday.

Posted: 11/15/08 at 6:01pmi totally agree with that! I think "Can't Fight This Feeling" (considering the type of show Conan is) would have brought down the house. Course I suppose they felt they need to have everyone in the number. not sure. woulda saved "Here I go again" for regis and kelly :)

I think that's why they picked Here I Go Again. Everyone was in it. I think it is hard to pick a number from this show to perform on a show like Conan because it is taken out of context.
Each song is so intertwined into the story, it's hard to disconnect.
I think they chose the correct song. High energy, fun and everyone sings and dances.

wow, that was...campy
loved the intro...that was it
it just wasn't good, and there little riff section was terrible
i'll give them the benifit of the doubt and assume it's better in context...unless the show isn't supposed to be a complete spoof.
