Chita as Aurora in Spiderwoman. Dammit- she was even the show logo!
I think some choices here though, just seem to be a querstion of who originated the role.

Posted: 5/7/12 at 9:45amI think A Chorus Line is a given, considering how the characters were created to begin with.

Posted: 5/7/12 at 11:17amSeason of 79-80 Pat Carroll was performing a one-woman play called Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein, Gertrude Stein. I tried for years to get rights to it for an actress friend, but she had it tied up and we ended up doing Gertrude Stein and a Companion instead. I never liked it as much. So, indeed, Pat Carroll, at least for a period, owned Gertrude Stein.

Posted: 5/7/12 at 11:23amI'm going to voice my personal disagreement with a couple of choices mentioned earlier. When I think of Tevye, I don't think of Zero Mostel, I think of Topol. And I don't think Merman owns Annie Oakley after Reba showed us all what the role can be.

Posted: 5/7/12 at 11:51amUnless we join Mercouri in "Home Sweet Heaven" I doubt we shall ever see another production of Ilya Darling. Not that anyone probably cares about that show, but it might be as good an example of an actor "owning a role" ad infinitum as there is.

Gaveston thanks for keeping the rally down to a minimum of chaos last night. Although I hope you saw that on my list Chita owns at least four other roles besides Velma..... some people are never satisfied.
The mob and I waited for about an hour, but you never buzzed us up. So we went to Joe Allen's and reminisced about being gay in Manhattan in the 70s.
