So......
Who sang for Rosario Dawson in the RENT Movie? It seems a touch obvious when you hear it...especially if you saw her at the Public this summer.

Posted: 11/12/05 at 1:54amI'm not trying to diss her, but its quite obvious in some places on the soundtrack that they really digitalized(sp?) her voice. Not the whole thing, just a few spots.

I don't buy that for a second.
If you saw two gents, you could hear she was pretty much pitch-free.
Not to menion, it's clearly two different voices when she's singing and speaking.

Who sang for Rosario Dawson in the RENT Movie?
Rosario Dawson. No joke.

Are you sure???
I mean, it's pretty easy to hide someone dubbing for her if they wanted to and it would seem to me now having seen the whole thing, that no amount of protools could alter her sound that much to make her sound like a kickass singer.

Yes, Rosario OBVIOUSLY sang for herself in the movie. Come on now.
She's actually one of the best parts of the movie.

Posted: 11/12/05 at 2:46amAm I the only one that thinks that there is A LOT of computer working on her voice? A LOT of what she sings you can tell that...O WIAT, someone else up there thinks it is to! Ya, it does sound REALLY digitalized on (I think) A LOT of parts...like, almost most of it, it is jsut more noticable in certain areas. SHE STINKS!! I wnat a REAL voice, not a computer voice!

You are incredibly obnoxious. See the movie, then judge.
Her voice sounds completely natural to me. Get the f*ck over it.

I am obnoxious?
Um, it is just an opinion. I have the recording, which is enough. I don't think I need to see the movie to just HEAR what I hear on the CD. I do like her voice...what is real of it. I only like computer when it is there on purpose, which it is not for her. I am going ot see the movie, maybe my views will change and I will let you know, but I doubt it.
And strange this "get the f*ck over it* when you could jsut turn your head and say nothing, but no, you must reply with insult.
This long post was your punishment, thanks for reading.

Posted: 11/12/05 at 3:07amI understand, I just wasn't sure if I was the only one to notice the computer, so this was a nice place to state my view. That is what a place like this is for...to give opinions. You don't have to know what you are talking about to state an opinion. I'd like to hear you ramble on about my other interests with a stereotypical opinion...it would be the same deal. I still respect your opinion of her though.

I don't think it's digitized too much. Perhaps in some places, but whatev, they do that with mainstream artists all the time. It's why people sound different in the studio as opposed to performing live. Two totally different types of performance. Which is why I also think it's unfair to compare Rosario's singing on the CD versus her performance in Two Gentlemen. She may not have the best voice or anything, but I think it's entirely appropriate for the role and so did they. Wouldn't you have liked them to touch it up a bit so at least it's not off-key? People would be far less forgiving. And her acting may be phenomenal. From clips that I've seen, Rosario looks great and I can't wait to see the movie for her performance.

That is what I was TOTALLY subconciously thinking heymrmusic!
And the part about artists sounding differet in the studio....EXCEPT Tori Amos sounds TONS better LIVE than on CD.

She is dubbed by the same person who dubbed Uma Thurman in THE PRODUCERS.
It's also the person who did all the tapdancing for Richard Gere in CHICAGO.
Coincidentally, the same person was working in the hospital emergency room when Gere came in to have the gerbil removed.
And the very same person was in the restroom stall next to Carol Channing when she uttered the immortal: "Corn? When did I eat corn?"

Posted: 11/12/05 at 6:47amI saw TWO GENTS and yes, of course she sounds better on the sweetened RENT soundtrack, but it's clearly the same voice.

Damn y'all really find every reason to critisize Rosario because she isn't Daphne, Karmine or insertnamehere.
The cast, the director, and the Larson's all think she's great.
Get over it, she's Mimi.

Having worked in music I can tell you that the majority of the CDs you buy feature very heavily "sweetened" vocals. From pop divas to cast recordings. Even when the singer has a naturally gorgeous voice. It's an unfortunate trend.
That said, yes that is Rosario! And not everyone sounds the same singing as they do speaking.

There are moments during the film, though...SERIOUSLY...and I'm just commenting, not trying to insult her...where she will speak part of a song and then starts singing and it sounds like someone different entirely.
Her acting in the film is fantastic, but it's difficult not to notice the electronic Cher "Do You Believe In Life After Love" sound that it sometimes makes. It just seems like they could have found SOMEBODY who could sing it. It's not as if they needed her for her name.
The film looks fine...it's awkward at times, because they've turned a bunch of sung moments into scenes (without changing anything) so randomly there will be a scene that happens to rhyme. People in the theater laughed out loud at a few moments that were just really strange-Adam and his long hair flowing as he walks through the Grand Canyon during what you own stands out as a particularly awkward moment. but I digress...Rosario looks and (clearly technically enhanced or dubbed by someone else) sounds great.
