Posted: 7/2/07 at 11:43pmso that's why she plugged it so hard on THE VIEW? BC she had money in it?

Posted: 7/2/07 at 11:47pmMy 1st thought was the same you had, but really, she plugged Spring Awakening a lot more, predicted it was going to win the Tony, and then some other shows like The Apple Tree, or A Chorus Line were promoted on The View, as much as Grey Gardens.

Posted: 7/2/07 at 11:49pmGotcha. I'm not bashing her for promiting GG at all, it was a terrific show. I am sad to see it go, but am glad I saw it when I had the chance.

Posted: 7/3/07 at 7:54amEvery time Spring Awakening was on The View, the credits would show "the producers of Spring Awakening" as a promotional sponsor. She was paid to promote it.

Posted: 7/3/07 at 8:59amI thought any time a "guest" provided items to be given away to the audience they were listed as a promotional sponsor? Not just Sprinng Awakenign but any show that provided tickets, T-shirts, hats, CDs etc are all promotional sponsors aren't they?

If you think Rosie plugged this show for Money, or that she does anything for money, then you don't know Rosie.
Besides, you could tell she loved GG just by the way she spoke of it.
I remember once after one of her verbal fights with Trump was getting out of control, she came in and said how she went to see GG again, because it makes her forget all her troubles, and just takes her away to a dream world.

Posted: 7/3/07 at 9:05amYes, but I saw an episode where nothing was given away, but it was pointed out that Lea Michele and Jonathan Groff were in the audience (of course mentioning the show they're in), and the producers were listed as sponsors.

I am very disappointed with many of you. After everything Rosie has done to promote Broadway to mainstream America, you accuse her of having intentions to make money off of Broadway shows??
She knew she was going to lose money from TABOO. I bet she knew she would lose money for GREY GARDENS. It doesn't matter to her! For three reasons: 1) She cares about her friends; 2) She cares about the art; 3) She can afford to lose money.

Posted: 7/3/07 at 9:43amI'm not accusing Rosie of anything. I have no problem with anything she's done, and admire her support of the community. Someone said Rosie plugged GG because she had money in it. Someone else said she plugged SA more, and I was just pointing out that The View might have taken advantage (not in a bad way) of her love of Broadway to give shows a chance to promote themselves on a popular daytime show.

Rampant speculation here, but I highly doubt ABC News (even if The View is not technically a production of ABC News, Barbara Walters certainly has a pie in that oven) would permit one of its employees to accept money to plug shows. Especially after the Star Jones wedding fiasco and the bad will it generated.
You know the Paris Hilton we-don't-pay-for-interviews thing that happened with the networks? From the perspective of a news division and its legal department, this falls into that category too.

If the producers of The View were paid by any show producers Rosie, in turn, was paid by those producers with that money. I never said there was anything wrong with it. I never said it was underhanded. I never said she shouldn't have fought to promote shows. If the shows did indeed pay to be plugged, Rosie was doing her job by doing it (as well as supporting an art form she loves) and therefore she was "getting paid" to do it. All I said was that the producers of these shows were "promotional sponsors" of the show. I didn't say Tom Hulce was slipping her a 20 before the show!
Since when is it bad to get paid for doing something you love? I think she found a good way to promote Broadway AND make money.
